Andrews Institute, World Class! - TeamPlayer1 - 05-26-2011 09:46 PM

I went up to Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze FL for a total knee replacement and the level of care just blows me away. Great surgeons but that's a given here! After 2 1/2 months of PT all is great!

Early on in PT Matthew Stafford was finishing his rehab on his shoulder, nice guy. Terrell Owens had a knee procedure and went from a wheelchair to crutches to walking well in about a week! He has been there on my days for about a month and he is a stud still! On this 4 way hip machine I'm still doing 50 lbs and he's doing 175! I know 'cause I had to change the weight lol!

I can't help but think that JJ is the same size! There are some o-linemen I don't recognize, MLB pitchers with Tommy John surgery and some line backers. If you don't recognize them , the therapists will lose their jobs if they name anyone.
By the way, Jake Long was in yesterday with a cast on his left foot and is a little time away from PT.

Dr. Andrews and the other surgeons walk through checking on their patients (including me!). All patients are assigned a therapist and an assistant just like the stars and they took my insurance just like any other hospital.

A condo on the beach for a couple of months and PT 2 hrs a day, 3 days a week....great environment!

If any of you need orthopaedic surgery. you can't go to anyplace better!

They have an Athletic Performance Facility that is unbelieveable but that's another thread.

Jedi, I wouldn't do that intentionally but my left ACL was replaced twice and had no cartilage left. I had no other alternative. This place took my insurance just like Piedmont Hospital would. Why not go there.

I used to drive by there every day for work.

geez...i tore my ACL, had a pretty good surgery(even though a part of my leg still feels weird to this day), got shitty treatment afterwards and it still feels weak when I put weight on it awkwardly...they did give me some type of work out machine, and I had a week vacation at my parent's place Big Grin nothing better than waking up, popping pills, watching family guy, playing games, and sleeping...all day

Now they don't short you on the pain meds. You have everything you need every step of the way.
After recovery they have a "Femoral nerve block" similar to a dentist numbing for a root canal but in your knee. Plus there is a patient administered morphine pump.

Two and a half months later I can say my knee replacement has been pain free since I had oral prescriptions as well. Now I don't need anything. It's great.

The level of attention to detail by professional sports or just high quality institutes like this is brilliant. Being british it took many years to get an opp after my original tear. 1st time I was injured i self rehabbed. Got back to playing at ther highest level here then took a shot to the knee, took a year and changing County to get my operation, and the after care was awful. I had an Arthroscopy and walked out of hospital no crutches no nothing. The physio dept, belongs in the 80s/90s. I had to go private after that, £30 a session with a guy who used to be in Tampa Bay's strength and conditioning team so he knows how to deal with Football injuries. Had me up and sprinting and cutting again in a few months. I promised my future wife I wouldnt play again. So now I use my new found agility on the paintball field instead. I know some people here are against Universal Health Care, I'm not crazy about the NHS here but it does provide a service. I really think it should be optional. Like now, I'm on Private Health Care Insurance if anything happens I go there to get sorted. I feel that universal health care as a sole provision in a country promotes laziness from the institutions and standards can slip.

Example as great and world renowned as it is, my friends daughter fell suddenly ill with a rare condition. Great Ormond Street Hospital couldn't help them, he had to uproot his entire family to Germany for nearly 6 months in order to save her life.
