RE: How would you resolve the labor dispute? - The Falcon Jedi - 05-19-2011 12:55 AM Imagine it this way - lets say all the vegetables on a farm formed a Union. They dont like how the Farmer treats them. They say he doesnt water them enough, feed them enough fertilizer. So they go on Strike, and stop growing. What do you think happens then? WE DONT EAT. And we Starve. And the Farmer goes bankrupt, loses his farm to foreclosure, and now we are left with nothing to eat. Tell me now how this benefits us. RE: How would you resolve the labor dispute? - The Falcon Jedi - 05-19-2011 01:02 AM So from the example above, imagine the Players being the Vegetables and the Owners being the Farmers. With no Players there is no Football, and if there is no Football then there is no Owners and no NFL, and nobody Wins. Players want too much these days. Idiots like DeMaurice Smith is only hurting everything. Players make enough money, they choose to do this as a career because most of them cant do anything else and because it gives them lots of money. Owners OWN the Teams - Its their TEAM. Its their MONEY. If Players arent happy with their compensation then let them find another line of work, and get real jobs like the rest of us. Then see how many of them come running back when they go broke. Last game I went to for my family of four, it cost me $250 in tickets alone. Add another $100 for parking and concessions. That's freaking expensive as hell. And why is that? And when does it simply become too much? Because with the old CBA, it would only get worse. As a capitalist, I believe that the value of a player's contract is determined by the market, not someone's purely arbitrary definition of what is "reasonable." Now, of course, I realize that NFL owners, like most corporate socialists, don't believe that their businesses should be subject to the will of a free market, which is why they insist on plenty of artificial controls be put in place - things like salary caps or taxpayer subsidies for stadiums - so that they are shielded from those risks inherent in owning a business. So, it's not at all surprising that these welfare queens are claiming unsustainability during a time in which they are bringing in record revenues. The thing is I just can't find a single reason to believe their claims. Um, about that players union... You know, the one whose existence you claim is solely responsible for us not having football? It currently does not exist. Hasn't for a while, in fact. So, where's football? As for the rest of your post, your theory that unions striking hurts the economy has one little flaw: There is no historical example of such a thing ever occuring. RE: How would you resolve the labor dispute? - The Falcon Jedi - 05-19-2011 04:18 AM The question you have to ask is - what does a Union do for a worker that the worker couldnt do for himself? |
