LIONS It took nerve to use a first-round pick on a WR for the fourth time in five drafts, but Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson will thrive under offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Second-rounder Drew Stanton of Michigan State has the tools to be the QB of the future. A

PANTHERS Miami LB Jon Beason, the first-rounder, will be valuable insurance behind veteran Dan Morgan. Also, Carolina prefers big red-zone targets, and the second-round pick, 6'4" WR Dwayne Jarrett of USC, fits the mold. A

49ERS They spent the 11th pick on a productive LB in Mississippi's Patrick Willis, then gave QB Alex Smith a boost by trading up for T Joe Staley of Central Michigan at No. 28 and dealing a fourth-round pick to the Seahawks for veteran WR Darrell Jackson. A-
SOLID EFFORT

CARDINALS The No. 5 pick, T Levi Brown of Penn State, should make life easier for second-year QB Matt Leinart, while Michigan DT Alan Branch, once considered a top 10 prospect, was a nice value pick in the second round. B+

FALCONS First-rounder Jamaal Anderson, a DE from Arkansas, will be a strong complement to John Abraham, while G Justin Blalock of Texas and CB Chris Houston of Arkansas were first-round talents who slipped to the second. B+

VIKINGS Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson fell into their laps at No. 7, and second-round WR Sidney Rice of South Carolina will improve a weak passing attack. B+

BUCS They addressed an aging defense by using six of their first seven picks on that side of the ball. DE Gaines Adams of Clemson will have an immediate impact on the pass rush. B

RAMS First-round DE Adam Carriker of Nebraska will make it easier for fellow linemen Leonard Little and La'Roi Glover to do their jobs. B-
SO-SO SHOW

COWBOYS DE Anthony Spencer of Purdue, the first-rounder, should be a productive pass-rushing OLB playing opposite DeMarcus Ware. C+

GIANTS While New York's first two picks -- Texas CB Aaron Ross and USC WR Steve Smith -- are sound players, the Giants failed to fill huge needs at LB and on the offensive line. C

BEARS TE Greg Olsen of Miami should give QB Rex Grossman a much-needed receiver option, but the NFC champs could have used another playmaker. C

SEAHAWKS Without a first-round pick, Seattle added depth at key positions -- starting with Maryland CB Josh Wilson in the second round. C

EAGLES After trading out of the first round, Philadelphia surprisingly spent its first selection on QB Kevin Kolb of Houston at No. 36, signaling concerns about injury-plagued Donovan McNabb's long-term future. C-

REDSKINS First-round pick LaRon Landry of LSU should be a star at DB when teamed with Pro Bowl S Sean Taylor. But with only one pick in the first four rounds, Washington had nothing else to celebrate. C-

SAINTS They didn't need Tennessee WR Robert Meachem in the first round as much as they needed a talented CB to shore up the shaky secondary. C-
DROPPED THE BALL

PACKERS The first-round pick, DT Justin Harrell of Tennessee, has had durability issues throughout his college career, and the second-round selection, Nebraska RB Brandon Jackson, was never a full-time starter with the Cornhuskers. D

BROWNS Selected a potentially dominant LT in Wisconsin's Joe Thomas at No. 3 and made the deal with the Cowboys to move up and get QB of the future Brady Quinn of Notre Dame with the 22nd pick. For those decisions alone, the Browns get an A.

RAIDERS Did the smart thing by taking JaMarcus Russell and get bonus points for unloading Randy Moss on the Patriots for a fourth-round pick (used to select Cincinnati cornerback John Bowie). RB Michael Bush of Louisville looks like a fourth-round steal. A-

BILLS Filled major needs with strong value picks, including Cal RB Marshawn Lynch in the first round and Penn State LB Paul Posluszny in the second. Third-round QB Trent Edwards of Stanford provides insurance behind J.P. Losman. A-
SOLID EFFORT

BRONCOS The top priority was to improve the pass rush, so taking DEs Jarvis Moss of Florida and Tim Crowder of Texas with their first two picks made sense. B

JETS Traded up twice to help the defense: First-round pick CB Darrelle Revis of Pitt improves the suspect secondary, and second-round LB David Harris from Michigan strengthens the front seven. B

RAVENS With an aging offensive line, they took the best G in the draft, Ben Grubbs of Auburn, in the first round, then found another potential starter at that position, Iowa's Marshal Yanda, in the third. B

BENGALS Michigan CB Leon Hall was considered a top 10 talent, so Cincy was happy he fell to No. 18. Teamed with CB Johnathan Joseph, a 2006 first-rounder, Hall will significantly upgrade the AFC's worst pass defense. B

STEELERS First two selections, OLB Lawrence Timmons of Florida State and DE LaMarr Woodley of Michigan, should help the transition from a 3-4 defense to the 4-3. B-

COLTS Having lost Brandon Stokley in free agency, Indy found a replacement in Ohio State WR Anthony Gonzalez. He'll be a nice third option for Peyton Manning. B-

PATRIOTS New England gambled twice on character, selecting Miami S Brandon Meriweather, who brawled with FIU players, in the first round and trading a fourth-round pick to Oakland for WR Randy Moss. Bill Belichick will be put to the test. B-
S0-SO SHOW

CHIEFS First-rounder Dwayne Bowe of LSU gives them a sturdy WR who can take some pressure off Tony Gonzalez and Larry Johnson. C

CHARGERSCould have taken a WR with a higher profile, but first-rounder Craig Davis of LSU will add speed to the offense. C

JAGUARS Got the player they wanted in Florida S Reggie Nelson, but passed on Quinn at No. 21 when they could have addressed a chronic QB problem. C-

TEXANS Louisville DT Amobi Okoye will bolster the pass rush, but Houston waited too long to pick up offensive line help for new QB Matt Schaub. C-
DROPPED THE BALL

TITANS Desperately in need of a big-play WR, and with Dwayne Bowe and Robert Meachem still on the board, they instead took Texas S Michael Griffin in the first round. D

DOLPHINS Bad enough that quarterback-hungry Miami passed on Quinn with the ninth pick. But to use that pick to reach for unpolished Ohio State WR Ted Ginn Jr.? That's a hefty price to pay for a player whose immediate impact will be on special teams. D

Just based on those 3 picks I would give it a D.

The Raiders grade is laughable.

RE: 2007 NFL Draft Grades - Anomaly - 05-02-2011 11:28 PM

The fact that they said they "unloaded" Moss on the Pats shows how stupid these grades are. The Pats completely fleeced the Raiders.

Check out his stats in New England

2007 - 1493 Yards, 23 TDs
2008 - 1008 Yards, 11 TDs
2009 - 1264 Yards, 13 TDs

I would gladly take that for a 4th round pick.

When did the Steelers transition to a 4-3????

At the time though most people were saying Randy Moss was washed up. I wanted to puke when NE pulled that off because it was obvious his poor play was a product of his environment. lol @ the experts that said Moss had lost a step and would destroy the locker room. Him and Brady went on to take a dump on the NFL record books.
