Some guys just can't catch a break. - mdrake34 - 03-31-2011 08:31 PM http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6277399 MIAMI -- Hard-luck quarterback Chad Pennington tore an anterior cruciate ligament in a pickup basketball game and will undergo surgery next week. Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, said in a news release Thursday that Pennington will have the operation April 7 and well-known surgeon Dr. James Andrews will perform it. The release did not say which knee Pennington injured. AFC East blog Graham ESPN.com's Tim Graham writes about all things AFC East in his division blog. • Blog network: NFL Nation The former Jets and Dolphins quarterback is now a free agent. The 34-year-old Pennington twice has been selected the NFL Comeback Player of the Year, but he lasted just two plays last season with the Dolphins before hurting his right shoulder again. He had surgery on it for the fourth time, but said he wants to try to return to the NFL this season. A shoulder injury ended Pennington's 2009 season in Week 3. Following arduous rehabilitation, he began 2010 as a backup to Chad Henne, then made his season debut in the ninth game when he started against Tennessee. But he had to leave the game after only two snaps with a dislocated shoulder and torn capsule. Pennington's career completion percentage of 66.0 is the highest in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts. In 2008, his one full season starting for the Dolphins, Pennington led them to their only playoff berth since 2001. He led the Jets to the playoffs in 2002, 2004 and 2006. Seems like a great player, but ouch! RE: Some guys just can't catch a break. - Paulitik - 04-01-2011 05:45 PM I feel for the guy. You can't help but pull for him, but this is pathetic. RE: Some guys just can't catch a break. - papachaz - 04-02-2011 06:31 PM he should consider trying to find a coaching position with someone. one that won't require a lot of physical responsiblilties like oh, say, walking up and down the sideline... RE: Some guys just can't catch a break. - mdrake34 - 04-02-2011 06:36 PM Chad walking up and down a sideline will look something like this . . .
