Jaguars bring back Jason Hill; say so long to Mike Sims-Walker
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 3, 2011, 10:55 PM EST
Jacksonville Jaguars' Mike Sims-Walker catches a pass against Oakland Raiders' Ricky Brown during the first quarter of their NFL football game in Jacksonville

One year ago at this time Jason Hill was a disappointing third-round draft pick coming off a nine-catch season in San Francisco. Mike Sims-Walker was a rising star coming off 869 yards and seven scores.

A lot can change in a year.

The Jaguars agreed to a two-year contract with Hill on Thursday evening, according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union. Hill was cut by the 49ers last year and wound up gaining 233 yards in his final four games in Jacksonville as a deep threat. He would ideally be a third receiver next year.

Meanwhile, Ganguli reports the Jaguars told Sims-Walker they were moving on.

“its official, I personally wanna thank all the fans who stuck with me in jacksonville for the last 4 years but sorry to say my time is up!!” Sims Walker wrote on Twitter.

Sims-Walker struggled with injuries early in his career, and there are questions about his maturity. With that said, he’s a very talented deep threat that has shown the ability to produce. He’ll be one of the most intriguing wideout names available when free agency eventually hits.

Actually I do find him intriguing. He wouldn't be that expensive, but there has to be a reason Jacksonville completely gave up on him. Last year was not pretty, but I thought they would make the attempt.

Yeah, I'm mixed on it. He is a viable deep threat. I'll have to trust TD on this one. I'd rather get Sydney Rice, and if we go someone with questionable character, let it be VJax. That said, I would have no issue with picking up Sims-Walker.

I concur, but arguably MSW for free + a Jenks-like contract > Rice or Jackson for a 1st + top 10 money, as far as value is concerned.

I'm mixed. He hasn't played a full season once and he's never averaged over 14 YPC for a season. Seems iffy, but I say, "In TD I trust."

I actually think next year could be a break out year for this guy. I wouldn't offer Jenks money as he signed a pretty hefty contract a couple of years back like 4.5 mil per yer I think. But I would try to lock him into a reasonable contract with escalator clauses if he makes center incentives ETC.....This could be a really nice stretch the field option and then with the money we save in picking him up, we could go after Gaither.....could be interesting....I have seen a few guys I hope TD at least talks to....DT Tommie Harris is still young and can return to form, again sign him to a lesser contract with incentives....he definitely wants to play for a winner and seems to be a pretty good guy overall (took out an ad thanking Bears fans.....)

Nah, they cut him for a reason.

Sup guys, been a while

The guy has a history of injuries. Nothing major, but nagging injuries. I'm the least likely guy to support picking up a guy that is as injury prone as Jerious Norwood.

Im down to bring him in with a reasonable contract. Guy is a playmaker... Sometimes...
