Swifty,

I actually like what you bring to the messageboard in some respects - I cannot stand the guys that think "everything is rosy" in Flowery Branch - ALL-THE-FREAKIN' TIME!!! Clearly the Falcons are a playoff team but not upper-echelon playoff team right now - several weaknesses and it won't be easy to fix.

Having said all of that, and - here comes the "BUT".........You are running this Aaron Rodgers/Matt Ryan thing - straight into the damn ground!Angry

Everybody for the most part - agrees that Aaron Rodgers is on "another level" above Matt Ryan right now.

Q: Can Matt ever be what Aaron Rodgers is?
A: Doubtful

I personally don't think Matt is ever going to have a strong arm - he just is not gifted that way.

Randy Johnson struck people out throwing the ball 98mph
Greg Maddux struck people out by nibbling edges and outthinking the hitter

Matt Ryan is more like Greg Maddux
Aaron Rodgers is more like Randy Johnson

The way Matt quarterbacks is not aesthetically pleasing and it probably never will be. He just "gets it done" most of the time in the regular season. In playoffs, Matt has struggled moreso because he's facing superior opponents.

I think Matt Ryan will continue to progress. I think his deep ball will get better but it will never be great. I think the Atlanta Falcons can win a SuperBowl with Matt Ryan at the helm but I don't think Matt will ever be a 4,500yd and 35TD/yr kind of guy. If that is what you require, you best move on......

ok swift......

but let's just let the Rodgers/Ryan comparison drop......Matt's not there yet - I think he can be a SB winning QB one day - as long as he keeps improving. He definitely had his best year in 2010 - we need more improvment in 2011 and beyond - no doubt!

Watch this video, especially for AJ's response at 2:05 into the video. He's asked how, after so many injuries, the Packers were able to pull it together and win the super bowl. He responds that, though cliche, it's because they have a locker room full of high character guys. He goes on to say that just one or two diva's can bring an entire locker room down.

The cowboys are a perfect example of this. They have all-world talent on paper, but they can't coexist. Dez Bryant, by all accounts, showed his ass from the moment he was drafted. That's now how you win championships.

AJ Hawk was surprisingly articulate. I always kind of thought he looked like a caveman.

Dez Bryant is nowhere near the diva that Michael Irvin was. He has 3 rings if im not mistaken. You can't simplify things that easily. The formula the Packers used is a good one but there are a whole lot of "not so high character" teams that own rings. It's not that simple.

Rodgers is Johnson and Maddux combined. Great post though.

Not trying to simplify it that much, but I'd rather take the Packer's route to the Lombardi. At least in screening bad character guys, we're going that route.

RE: Swift - USAF HART - 02-07-2011 09:04 PM

Swift, can you possibly just for ONE day, JUST ONE, quit bringing your petty bullshit argument of Matt Ryan vs QB X into a thread? We all know Matt Ryan is 0-2 in the playoffs. You know what? Manning was 0-3 in the playoffs including a divisional game exit after having a first round bye. No one is calling him a bad QB. Please do not mistake me for wanting to get into a Ryan vs QB X discussion with you. I'm absolutely sick of the shit you spew on here. You never contribute anything of relevance to a conversation unless it involves the QB position. Even if it doesn't you will find a way to make it loop back to the QB, just so you can run your mouth off about how shitty Ryan is. My case in point was the creation of this thread. It was about having a team full of committed guys to the TEAM and not themselves that got Green Bay as far as it did, and then you came in and were like "Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the world *drool*, Matt Ryan will never be on his level *barf*." Just fucking stop. I've defended you so many times because you don't think everything is rosey, however the only thing you EVER bitch about is Matt Ryan. You do realize that there are 53 active guys on a roster at a time. There are countless numbers of coaches, plenty of practice squad guys. No one single individual is responsible for our 0-2 record in the playoffs. Just like no one individual is responsible for our 3 winning seasons in a row. You live the classic football tale of the QB gets all the praise and all the criticsm. Wake up dude! It's not that way anymore!!

RE: Swift - Gritz - 02-07-2011 09:12 PM

The poster you guys are talking about plays a game with everyone. Whenever he catches too much flak for dog piling on Ryan (which he has almost perfected to a bizarre art) he trots out the inevitable line "but I'm one of the few posters who even wanted him."

He plays both ends so that he can never be wrong.

I'm sure it'd be an old Indian trick if there had been an "interweb" in the 'Ol West.
