Uh oh - No more streaming sites - The Falcon Jedi - 02-03-2011 09:27 AM U.S. seizes 10 sports streaming websites seized_website.top.jpgVisitors to the seized websites are greeted by this notice, courtesy of the federal government. By Charles Riley, staff reporterFebruary 2, 2011: 3:40 PM ET NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Ten websites that were allegedly engaged in the live streaming of major sporting events have been seized and shut down by authorities, the government said Wednesday. The 10 sites were among the most popular on the Internet for users hoping to access copyrighted sporting events, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. According to the government's complaint, which was unsealed Wednesday, each of the seized sites aggregated illegal, pirated broadcasts, and provided links to site visitors. Some of the world's biggest sports leagues were allegedly victimized, including the National Football League, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, World Wrestling Entertainment and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said the seizure, carried out just days before the Super Bowl, reaffirms the government's commitment to protecting copyright material. "The illegal streaming of professional sporting events over the Internet deals a financial body blow to the leagues and broadcasters who are forced to pass their losses off to fans by raising prices for tickets and pay-per-view events," Bharara said. The sites were disabled Tuesday, and have since been replaced by a posting notifying visitors that "This domain has been seized by ICE - Homeland Security Investigations." The seizure were carried out by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. ICE is the principal investigative arm of the larger Department of Homeland Security, and runs the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, which coordinates government efforts to combat intellectual property theft. Atdhe.net, channelsurfing.net, hq-streams.com, hqstreams.net, firstrow.net, ilemi.com, iilemi.com, iilemii.com, rojadirecta.org and rojadirecta.com are the names of the seized sites. Unfortunately, illegal streaming is the only way for some people to watch their favorite teams live. For example, I'm getting ready to move out of Atlanta to Illinois. My fiancée already has a house, but we can't get satellite there. Come next season, I'll either be stuck watching only scoring plays (Red Zone), watching only Bears/Packers games, or streaming. If NFL.com allowed streaming in the US or if Sunday Ticket was on something other than DirecTV, I'd do one of those. Since they aren't, streaming is my only way to watch the Falcons. Immigration???? really????????? oh forget about all the illegal's here taking our jobs, using our tax dollars and not putting anything back, go focus on internet streaming sites.....LOL never used a streaming site myself, but for those out of reach of cable and don't have satellite, guess you'll go back to no games RE: Uh oh - No more streaming sites - Patro - 02-03-2011 10:50 AM rojadirecta.es vipstand.com You can thank me later. By the way I think the States by closing Rojadirecta.com violated sovereignty an independence of the Spanish judiciary as the page was declared legal TWO times in Spain a year ago. Just a thought. RE: Uh oh - No more streaming sites - FullMetalFalcon23 - 02-03-2011 11:05 AM Just as well I'm planning on getting NFL Game Pass next year until my partner and I buy our house. Then I'll get the NFL games through my digital package. I got to say it sounds as though it is far easier to get broadcasts using digital packages here in the UK than it is in the States. My teams bar could show whatever game we wanted to see thanks to sky sports. I mean I really am surprised at how much jostling and difficulty you guys have to face. I'm sorry for it. Can understand why so many fans are getting fed up of the several slaps in the face they seem to be being handed. RE: Uh oh - No more streaming sites - USAF HART - 02-03-2011 12:30 PM Duffman, I also would like to use the streaming sites to watch my sports teams. Being that I am overseas, they don't always show my teams on television. My next option would have been to go get ESPN3 or some other paid subscription service to stream the games online legally, HOWEVER because I am not recognized as having a "U.S." IP Address, I am mostly blocked from that sort of thing. So you bet your ass I am going to watch illegal streams of my favorite teams. Until they iron all that shit out, it's going to keep happening. |
