Clabo now a Pro Bowler - TonyGraziani - 01-20-2011 06:53 PM

Replaces Peters from Philly. Just in on Twitter.

Awesome. Good for him.

Deserved it much more than Peters to begin with.

Congrats to Tyson.

We have 8 now. Most in the NFL, and most ever in Franchise history.

For a team that flew under the radar and got no media attention all season we sure did rack up some recognition.

Clabo is our best offensive lineman. He must be re-signed........Good bye Harvey Dahl - he was decent but is the odd man out - keep Clabo and Blalock.

Why do you guys want Dahl to be gone?? both him and Clabo is an awesome combo. If anyone is an odd man out Blalock is.

yup. seems like clabo has gotten better every year since he's been here....now he's one of the better tackles in the league. plus he can play 2 positions. clabo MUST be resigned...along with grimes.

its not so much that myself (or presumably others) WANT Harvey Dahl gone - its simply a math formula and strategy.

Thomas Dimitroff has taken 3 offensive linemen in the last two drafts:

Garrett Reynolds (OT - presumably RT) - 2009 draft
Joe Hawley (OG/OC) - 2010 draft
Mike Johnson (OG) - 2010 draft

Dimitroff did not draft these three guys thinking that they are all going to be perennial back-ups. Dimitroff knew that 60% of his offensive line were going to be free agents in the offseason.

Clabo, Dahl and Blalock will all be fairly expensive to re-sign. Those three rookies are "cheap talent" at this point. Dimitroff is not going to re-sign all three of the starters - so, if you accept my premise for reasons I listed above, then it just becomes of the question of:

"Who is the odd man out?"

I just think Clabo has played himself into an irreplaceable component who is a probowl right tackle - who can also play offensive guard.

So, given that Clabo is a re-sign "must" and that Dimitroff won't spend to keep all three then the question becomes:

"Who to keep between "Blalock vs. Dahl"?

For reasons I listed earlier I think Blalock is more valuable - again these reasons are:

1) Younger
2) Bigger/Stronger
3) better pass blocker (IMHO)
4) better overall player (IMHO)
5) Falcons have more invested in him (2nd round pick) - granted this is weakest of the reasons - "yes" McKay was the one who drafted him.

I just like Blalock overall better than Dahl. I know that Dahl has more of a reputation, thought to be nastier, etc, etc. I choose Blalock over Dahl - others may see things differently and I suppose you could make an argument for Dahl over Blalock.

I don't think Dimitroff would want to lose more than one offensive lineman in an offseason. I think this will be McClure's last year in 2011 before Joe Hawley takes over at Offensive Center. Mike Johnson would replace Harvey Dahl at RG in my estimation.

Dahl will come cheap.

We will retain most of the free agents we want to keep, because we are close. They all want to win the big one and they can sense that this team is getting closer. Why jump ship now for a big paycheck? Had we gone on this year and won the SB we would have lost most of the players mentioned. That's what happens after a championship. Right now I don't think they will all go...yet.
