The bigger the moment, the bigger the flop - Joker - 01-20-2011 10:57 AM

Thats always been the case with this franchise..no exceptions. Remember Deion ' this is MY HOUSE" .. Remember Jerry Rice torching Charles Dimry when we were tied for 1st? Remember Eugene Robinson deciding to get a hooker..ON THE STREET .. in MIAMI BEACH.. the night before the Super Bowl, killing the teams focus. Then there is this year.. an ice storm cripples the city for a week, and IMO, prob disrupted the teams training a bit and may have effected them.. thier travel habits.. they had to worry about thier kids at home all week, had to figure out how to get to practice( how DID they get to practice, ? almost seems like they didnt practice at all) , etc, etc.. Untill it happens, and they get a huge win and win it all.. i will be one of the ones that always says "Same old Falcons" cause i grew up here watching this team flop around like a dead fish for most of 40+ years. .. they build you up, they let you down.. we have had 3 winning seasons in a row. thats helping soften the blow a little.. but for right now.. they are still "Same old Falcons" to me.

I sent this to a guy I know who is a big muckety-muck VP with the Falcons Sunday morning.

Having been a longtime graybeard Falcon fan this is exactly how I feel.

Even though I do believe this franchise is on the right track, our current and past performances when the spotlight is on us is abysmal.

Can't deny the facts.

I was shocked at how the team was caught soo off guard.

We've all seen how the team doesn't show up in big games.... but I was shocked that it happened with THIS coaching staff and for the biggest game of the year.... hell it was the biggest game for the franchise is over a decade...

Maybe the coaching staff needs to learn that things need to change when it's time to get ready for a playoff game.... So far they're 0-2 in the playoffs and the most recent collapse is very concerning to say the least.

Well at least they have all offseason to think about it....

if you listen the the 'mike smith miked up' you'll clearly hear coach say, 'let's not come out flat, lets come out humming'.... he knows we have come out flat before, he knows we can come out flat.....sounds like he didn't have enough confidence in his preparations to know they wouldn't come out flat.

don't make this out to think i don't like coach smith, i do. BUT sure sounds like maybe when he evaluates himself, he needs to spend some time on his motivational drills

They made me this way. Years and years of losing.. Building a STUPID Dome in a city that doesnt need one, Drafting Aundrey Bruce, Bruce Pickens, trading up (and our next years #1 pick which turned out to be Jamaal Lewis) to draft a Blocking TE, Drafting Peria Jerry over Clay Matthews Jr, etc, etc.. etc, etc.. this team has rarely made a good decision. . and losing i could have handled, but getting ass whooped on Sat night , with a huge TV audience made it SAME OLD FALCONS..

Sorry but I just don't buy into this "Same Old Falcons" mindset. Trying to compare anything pre-Blank to now is kind of silly. Organizationally they are two completely different franchises who happen to share the same name. Maybe it's just my loathing for anything Smith related but when Blank bought the team I took the albatross off my neck, killed it then had a nice sandwich.

If you look at our history from when Blank bought the team I think the results are drastically different.

I know the outside world may disagree with that but I stopped caring about those sorts of things long ago.

There is no denying that game was a heart breaker to lose in a rout. No one knew the Falcons would collapse like that. Falcons fans have the right to remind everyone of the past heartbreaks. But,...you are right about one thing. These aren't the same old Falcons. If this happens again next season,...like more heartbreaks?

2002, 2004, 2008, 2010 playoff losses were under Blank's watch. Blank did field a team and coaching staff which made the playoffs in those years, so if you're an older Falcons fan recall the 1980's. These are not the same old Falcons.

I recall the 70's, the 80's and the 90's. We still have the second worst winning percentage of all-time out of 32 teams. only a handful of winning seasons.. a losing record in every decade, etc, etc... . Hard to wash that stink off so easy.
