Why the team doesn't stay in the dorms - JOEinPHX - 01-11-2011 04:03 PM

I've probably seen a hundred or so inquiries between the two forums asking where the players are staying during the snow, and if it isn't the dorms, why not?

Here's your answer.

The issue is insurance. The dorms are insured against damage all year round, but they are only insured for liability during training camp. So when you've got players whose salaries total $95M (and another $10M for coaches), you don't want to take on liability issues unless you need to. The Falcons could conceivably purchase a short-term rider if the guys had to stay in the dorms for an extended period. But since it won't be an extended period and the rider couldn't be obtained in a timely fashion anyway, it really isn't an option.

Interesting, never thought of it that way. Makes sense.

How bad is the snow? I can't imagine it would stick around long in the south.

Got between 6-8 inches where I am just outside the Perimeter. The temp has gotten up to about 35 degrees this afternoon, but is already dropping. Looking like anything that did melt is going to re-freeze overnight. Temps are going to struggle to get above freezing before the weekend.

In short, the issue is no longer the snow, its the snow that has melted and left behind .5-1 inch of ice.

Abraham said the ice and snow slowed people down getting to work, but none had missed out the practice. He even said SOME showed up YESTERDAY!!

Damn, i got nothing but respect for those guys.

It's also about the fact that Atlanta isn't prepared for such weather. Not their fault it just doesn't snow there. Here in Chicago were expecting 3-5 inches but plows are out and salt is on the roads. Ice won't be much of a problem except in spots.

Can't imagine that Mr Blank would care too much about the cost of extra of insurance.

How bad is the snow over there anyway? We had at least 6 inches just before christmas, and it stuck around for a week or two. And every time it started to melt it would snow again, and over here we don't know how to deal with snow. the entire country pretty much came to a stop.
