If Andrew Luck goes to Carolina - Joker - 12-29-2010 07:33 PM

We are gonna have 3 really young talented QB's in out division. Unless Luck ends up being Harrington the II or Tim Couch Jr. Josh Freeman is damn good..

Carolina is more than a decent QB away from competing at a high level. They may win an extra two games, but won't come close to a .500 record with Luck at the helm.

i've read and heard that Carolina might be looking at Harbaugh as their next coach, hoping he could bring Luck with him, but that Luck is seriously considering staying at Stanford for his senior year.

I don't blame a top rated college player for coming out if they get the chance to make the big money. As a college fan too, I hated seeing top players leave the team early. The school invests in them with the scholarships, and the average pro career is not that long, they need that education. On the other hand, a career ending injury in the senior year means they don't get the big pro money either.

as the NCAA commercial on TV says, the vast majority of NCAA athletes go pro at something other than sports. I'd like to see them have to stay in college and finish. Just my .02

Not really! They're a top five def, there oline could use an adjustment. They have two very good rb's. They also have to young wrs and an old Steve smith. They're not that far off.

Their receving corps is easily top 5 in terms of worst in the league. You can attribute that to the QB carousel going on, but I don't think a different QB is going to change that. Jimmy Clausen put up amazing numbers at Notre Dame and they ran a pro style offense. He came to Carolina and was thrown into the fire. Steve Smith will never be what he used to be, and the other receivers aren't anywhere near ready to step up and make an impact. If I am Carolina, I give Clausen the ball and go out and draft AJ Green and then shore up the Offensive line with the rest of the draft. AJ Green would instantly give Jimmy someone he can build a chemistry with. Steve Smith could then be put in the #2 position thus taking alot of pressure from him. Add to that the running game, and like you said their defense, and I believe they become a .500 team. If they take luck, they are just throwing money away. They invested enough money in Jimmy as it is.

they said the same thing about the Atlanta Falcons in 2008 when we drafted one young guy by the name of Matt RyanRolleyes

I don't see Richardson signing a #1 overall pick. He will trade back. Dude is too cheap.

How can ANYONE predict how many players a team needs to be competitive? EVERY team has talent.. How many games better are the Rams than they were last year? Look at Tampa Bay this year, and Kansas City, and St Louis.. All KC did was get 2 really good coordinators and look what they have done.. Rans just added a QB, they still have no WR's and they are much improved .. The Bucs had a good draft and added some WR's and a RB beast that wasnt even drafted.. ya never know... Who would have thought all 3 of those teams would possibly make the playoffs? Even the Raiders have made strides. Plus all i really was saying is that we may have some good young QB's in our division for years to come..

Yeah I don't buy the whole "This team is more than this player away" argument.

If Andrew Luck turns out as good as they say he will, a la Ryan, Flacco, Bradford, Freeman, Sanchez, etc, then they could have the same result as those teams did.

Carolina is hurting at receiver no doubt. Steve Smith is aging, and they've got unproven young players there. They do have a good offensive line when healthy though, anchored by Jeff Otah and Jordan Gross(Both Pro-Bowl caliber players). Deangelo Williams may not be there next year, but they're stacked at RB with D. Williams, Jonathan Stewart, and Mike Goodsen. Their defense is in a better position than ours was in 2008 also. If Andrew Luck pans out, and goes to Carolina, the NFC South could have 4 legitimate playoff threats, with 4 pretty damn good QB's.
