Saints celebrate their win by standing on the Falcon's face
By MJD

After the Saints scratched out a victory against the Falcons in the Georgia Dome Monday night, a few of them returned to the field to put a little exclamation point on it.

Jonathan Vilma(notes) and a few other defensive players went out to celebrate on the big Falcon painted at midfield, Terrell Owens-on-the-star style. From nola.com:

When it was over, several Saints defensive players came back onto the field to pose for group pictures, gleefully celebrated on the Falcons' home field, while a small group of Saints fans cheered from the stands.

"We didn't want to wait until next week to clinch the playoffs," Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma said. "We wanted a remembrance of this. That's why we went out and had our picture taken on the Falcon."

A classy move? Probably not. Will the Falcons like it? I doubt it (and we know that Roddy White has a tendency to take things personally). And it does feel a little beneath the defending world champions. Less than a year ago, you were dancing with the Lombardi Trophy, and now, you need to celebrate on someone else's logo?

You're the champs. You should expect to beat the Falcons.

But in the end, it's just a picture. They stood on painted turf and smiled. It's just one of those things that might add a little extra hot sauce to an already-heated rivalry. No more, no less.

You should expect to beat the Falcons?

No, you should expect to beat the Cardinals.

Oh, wait...

This is precisely why I didn't want these fuckers to win.

wait what? this seems like a total non story, I dont find it disrespectful to get a photo taken in the middle of the field. Of course the Falcons wont like it but more because they lost not coz of some photo.

Winning in the GA Dome is a big deal this year. Apparently the Aints thought so or they wouldnt have taken a picture.

You are correct. Saints LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar was just on ESPN radio and was asked about this. He said that this was in no way disrespect, but just something they have done in big wins all year. They take a picture of a given unit at the fifty yard line. Their first big goal was to win the Thanksgiving day game and they took a picture there. Clinching a playoff spot was simply another highlight and another picture was needed.

Yeah, upon second reading it appears that this is much ado about nothing. The article's title and certain terms used -i.e. "TO style" - made it seem worse than it really was at first glance.

Par for the course for a Yahoo blog. I should have known better.

I still take exception to the "You should expect to beat the Falcons" line, though.

Of course it was meant in disrespect. All teams do this kind of crap. Its childish but so is playing a schoolyard game every week for millions of dollars.

By the way, here is video of the "terrible transgression". Seems pretty innocent to me.

Making comments about Making their mark on the logo and pissing on the logo went a lot further than just taking your picture.

It was disrespect plain and simple. You can try to sugar coat it all you want - but as the Falcons have stated from their FO - every man knows about it - including Blank - AND IT WON'T BE FORGOTTEN .
