RE: Turner Needs to go - USAF HART - 12-28-2010 07:36 PM If Turner needs to go because of that game, then alot more than Turner need to be let go. It was simple playcalling that hhurt us more than anything Turner did/did not do. We all know Turner is a great back for our system. Seeing that the Saints had recently given up a ton of yards on the ground, and our track record for running the ball, I am sure they spent a large majority of their time in practice stopping the run. Let's put the shoe on the other foot. Had Turner gone off for 150 yards and a touchdown and we win this game, does this thread happen? rhetorical question, of course it doesn't. RE: Turner Needs to go - MalteseFalcon1994 - 12-29-2010 01:20 AM Nothing against Turner. But I go Runningback in the first or second round next year. Bring an extra kick to the offense and a change of pace. Runningbacks have a very short life span in the NFL now, once 30 rolls around its time for a new rb. Turner is 27/28? We should bring in a young fast motor for sure. Pure age isn't really such a huge factor for RB's it is wear and tear from years of playing. He barely played for the first part of his career. Jenks can't step it up every game, Snelling has had injury issues, and HD has flown off the radar. Who has a bevy of great weapons and succeeds? Dallas? Minnesota? Please tell me New England, because they are the perfect example of the team we are becoming. Remember they had Randy Moss, the ultimate weapon of the Madden era. Put up huge numbers never won anything. The key to the success of the Pats and their offense is their QB (who Ryan gets compared to), their O line (who stand up well to ours) and their system (which Ryan could excel in.) They are winning with basically Deion Branch and Wes Welker and a pair of rookie TEs. The key is Brady getting time, which he gets, and the offensive system putting the receivers right in front of him. Brady can throw the deep ball but doesn't need to. The receivers are always right there for him to make the play. Their playmakers? Welker was an undrafted kick returner before shining in the system. Branch left the system and went to Seattle and suffered outside of it Gronkowski and Hernandez - the offense was designed for them to make plays in. I doubt they would have had this kind of success elsewhere. Their offense is 1 in scoring and 11 in yards despite not having a 1000 yard rusher or receiver. They are 13-2 best record in the NFL. We are 12-3 on pace for the best record in the NFC something we haven't done since 1980. There is no shame in this season and no reason to throw it all away because of a close loss. RE: Turner Needs to go - phocis850 - 12-29-2010 11:39 AM That was the sermon on the mount. We have enough playmakers. Our problem is consistent execution. He barely played for the first part of his career. Exactly my point. He spent the first part of his career sitting on the bench filling in a little here and there. He's the first to say he's in the best shape of his life. He currently ranks 5th for rushing yards in the NFL, not just the NFC but for the league. And you want to replace him??? RE: Turner Needs to go - COWABUNGA! - 12-29-2010 04:00 PM There's only, maybe, 4 backs I'd rather have on our roster... http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=RUSHING&conference=null&season=2010&seasonType=REG&d-447263-s=RUSHING_YARDS&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-n=1 RE: Turner Needs to go - Mr. Patch - 12-29-2010 04:18 PM Turner is fine for the most part. I do think he might need to drop a little more weight, though. RE: Turner Needs to go - phalcon phil - 12-29-2010 08:58 PM Turner is fine, but we need a faster, shiftier, pass-catching rb. Turner doesnt consistently gain good yardage. A whole lot of 1 and 2 yard runs for every run over 10 yards or so. We need a rb that can do the things he doesn't do well. Turner is still one of the best backs in the league but our offense would be a lot more dangerous with someone like Norwood to share the load. It's been proven Norwood is unreliable and injury prone. Get him someone to team up with maybe in the Percy Harvin mold because we could use a proven threat beside Roddy at WR as well. |
