For Those Craving Media Respect: Week 16 Picks Are Leaning Toward Falcons - RFlagg - 12-23-2010 12:33 PM Just started looking up picks for this week and so far, I'm finding a high number going the Falcons' way. So far, the CBSSports experts have unanimously picked the Falcons to top the Saints, ESPN's Madden Simulation has the Falcons winning 17-16, and we've got 63% of the Yahoo Pickem votes to go along with one of the two experts that has weighed in. Nothing from the rest of the ESPN talking heads yet, but it looks like it'll be hard to claim a lack of respect going into the game Monday night. RE: For Those Craving Media Respect: Week 16 Picks Are Leaning Toward Falcons - Anomaly - 12-23-2010 12:41 PM 2 of the 3 on nfl playbook picked the Saints. NFL.com And 2 of 2 on ProFootballTalk picked Saints too. PFT.com RE: For Those Craving Media Respect: Week 16 Picks Are Leaning Toward Falcons - juraitwaluzka - 12-23-2010 01:17 PM I get so tired of these "expert" picks.in fact I wish there were no picks at all, it just pumps up their already inflated egos. It's just plain dumb. Let's see how much gusto they show if they have to lay down a grand, then it would be more likely for them to admit they don't even begin to have enough information to make an educated guess. As it is now it's just all emotionally based which is probably why it bugs me (I'll go with fact and logic over emotion every time) RE: For Those Craving Media Respect: Week 16 Picks Are Leaning Toward Falcons - Radical - 12-23-2010 01:25 PM I wish "experts" were hired/fired based on how accurate, well thought out, and researched their information was. If that was so, people like Michael Lombardi would be picking scraps from a garbage can. But even on N/AFC Playbook they still do predictions, grrrr!! When I think of today's "experts" I often just refer back to this: RE: For Those Craving Media Respect: Week 16 Picks Are Leaning Toward Falcons - Jesus - 12-23-2010 03:34 PM (12-23-2010 01:25 PM)Radical Wrote: I wish "experts" were hired/fired based on how accurate, well thought out, and researched their information was. Its unfortunate that their opinions differ, but firing them for not picking the winner? That doesn't make sense. They are making guesses based on their opinions which they are paid to give. Their opinions are formed after putting together the facts presented. It makes sense that some of them would pick the reigning super bowl champs who happen to be 10-4 and hungry for the playoffs over the 12-2 team that beat them by a field goal earlier in the year. What fun would the world be if we all thought the same. What fun would the world be if we all thought the same. Firing them for throwing out total jackassery like Trent Dilfer's "Score TDs and make them kick FGs bit" or Michael Lombardi's so called report that "some people inside the Falcons organization questions Matt Ryan's ability to be a franchise QB" and other complete bullshit that comes off as unethical/classless/poor journalism. People like Mel Kiper and their inane bullshit and just flat out off the wall nonsense that goes on every year just cheapens the experience. I'm not saying you aren't allow to have an opinion, but make it an opinion that actually feels like it should be put on television. I've seen better discussion and analyzation on the NFL and the draft on the AFMB than on ESPN most of the time. RE: For Those Craving Media Respect: Week 16 Picks Are Leaning Toward Falcons - juraitwaluzka - 12-23-2010 07:26 PM Quote:Their opinions are formed after putting together the facts presented If only this were true, in many cases their opinions are formed first then they cherry pick the "facts" that they think fit their preconceived notion, any contradictory information is simply ignored as if it didn't exist. This is the bulk of what's behind their buffoonery. An example I heard recently - the Falcons are not a good road team, despite being 6-2 and fresh off a 3 game road winning streak. And I have no problem with someone giving a non Falcons friendly analysis as long as it's based on reason. If someone said the Eagles will win in Atlanta because of any number of tangible things that could be taken from our first meeting, fine. But we don't even get that, we get Vick this, Vick that like a bunch of goddamn salivating dogs. It's nothing against the Falcons it's just their general approach of laziness. It takes no effort or research to do what most of them do, just kick back, watch some highlights and look at the box score then pontificate as if that were enough to be an expert. Anyone who knows this Falcons team knows exactly why that method produces very misleading conclusions. The Falcons style of play really requires you to dig deeper.
