thoughts on the draft, link to site - markdzul - 12-11-2010 04:19 PM Hello my Falcon brothers and sisters out there, Kind of bored on a saturday, watchin some raiders of the lost ark and waiting for the MMA fight tonight, and had a couple of thoughts while watching the all american college football show earlier. Missed most of it in flipping channels, but caught a little on the DB's. Sems most of us here thing the defensive end and offensive line are the spots to address in the upcoming draft. I have a tendancy to agree. I would love to see us address the D end position with our first round pick. Problem is according to one of my favorite sites http://www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php Looks like a ton of the D ends are taken before we get to pick. According to this site we are picking 32nd over all also. I have been folling this site for a couple of years and not that they are dead on, they seem to do a decent, not great job of analysis. (they missed the fact that Clabo is playing great this year on the write up of our pick) Please feel free to chime in with your thoughts as to some of the picks and where they went. I feel we will also need to address the running back position in the second or third round at the latest. Let me know your feelings..... Richmond Va Falcons Fanatic RE: thoughts on the draft, link to site - ggp - 12-11-2010 05:29 PM I would be happy with Sherrod. I personally, don't think that a decent OT, like hiim will drop so far, but if he does, draft him. If I had to make an early guess, I would say that at the bottom of the round, there will be little difference between the DE we would draft and a second rounder. For that reason, I don't think that we will "reach" for a DE in the first. Given the depth of quality CB's in this draft, I think that the chances we end up with a CB in the first is better than 50-50. Brandon Harris would be great, but Jimmy Smith would be a solid choice. Shooting from the hip, this is what I mock our first four rounds: 1 CB-Brandon Harris or Jimmy Smith. Both have the skills and character to become starters within 8 games. If Brent Grimes is re-signed, TD might move down for future picks (ala Belichick). 2 DE-Pernell McPhee. Battle tested SEC DE that had a great junior year and a solid senior year. His added weight this season might have been a coach's decision. If so, he should be able to regain his quickness by dropping down to 270lbs. 3 OT-Lee Ziemba. Has had knee issues, but would be a very good gamble at a cheap price. 4 LB- Josh Bynes. Played MLB for Auburn, but is a very good candidate to kick out to OLB. Very smart player with the athleticism to drop back in coverage. RE: thoughts on the draft, link to site - TonyGraziani - 12-11-2010 05:37 PM I lurk on there constantly. I haven't fully thought out a draft strategy for this year yet, but I wouldn't mind Sherrod IF he can play LT. Place him there, move Baker to LG(I have Blalock leaving via FA), and start Hawley at C(McClure retires). Hopefully that line can hold up. If he's a RT strictly, then that would be a wasted pick IMO because Clabo has that spot solidified. RE: thoughts on the draft, link to site - markdzul - 12-11-2010 06:24 PM I see TD being the kind of general manager that takes action when he sees a glaring weakness. ex. michael turner, D. Rob. It has been an situation where he seems to be making a splash every other year though in free agency. not sure if that is a strategy or coincidence. I have to feel baring work stoppage contract agreement issues he will delve into free agency this year and go after a defensive end. Not trying to overpay, but get some good experience to compliment the opposite side of JA55. Kroy is ok but the position definitly has room for improvement. the running back position intrigues me. Turner is most definitly our feature back without a doubt. Snelling i like, but not sure if he will stick with us or not. I like most other people think Norwood will be gone next season. Free agent running backs are "usually" less than desirable. I feel we have to address that position, not necessarily this draft but most certainly by the following. RE: thoughts on the draft, link to site - sonnyjim - 12-11-2010 11:16 PM Because we will be drafting so late, I look for trades to move up on any round. Because the of the CBA confusion I do not look for much movement in free agency. It will be a mystery market until salary caps and rookie caps are ironed out after the draft. I have DE, RB, CB and OL on my wish list, but I'm too stingy a guy to give up the coaching investments we have in guys like Sidbury, Franks, Reynolds, and others who might just need to marinate a while. TD knows best. RE: thoughts on the draft, link to site - Kahnedom - 12-12-2010 03:12 AM Smith uses his former background somehow gets jaguars to switch first and give them our 2 and next years 3rd to nab kerrigan, maybe give them sidbury. RE: thoughts on the draft, link to site - evo - 12-12-2010 04:45 AM if we can trade up and some how get Allen Bailey from Miami, i'll jizz in my pants! |
