The Atl D - bmorris55555 - 11-28-2010 11:24 PM I don't think the D that bad but it look like we give up a lot of yards in 4qt because teams are always trying to come back on us and that when give up a lot yards. what do guys think. RE: The Atl D - The Falcon Jedi - 11-28-2010 11:27 PM You have to take into account that the Packers dont and cant Run the ball. All they do is Pass. So Rodgers always gets big passing stats. We kept him out of the end-zone mostly. RE: The Atl D - harveybirdman - 11-28-2010 11:28 PM you also have to account that pretty or not, the gameplan was to take away the big play, which we did. RE: The Atl D - cnasty - 11-29-2010 12:12 AM I would like somebody to do an analysis of our yardage for quarters 1-3, then figure it up for the 4th. THAT would be an interesting stat. Anybody have wayyyyy too many time on their hands? RE: The Atl D - DriveHomeSafelyAtlantaWins - 11-29-2010 12:17 AM Now that I've had time to reflect on the game, I think the defense played very well today. GB had to work HARD to move the ball most of the time. And that's a damn good offense. We held them to way less than their average, and much of the yards/points they did get were due to desperate measures (going on 4th, etc.). That said, though, there's CLEAR room for improvement. Can we please play a flea flicker (or similar trick play) right for the second time this season (we did get it right once vs the Saints)? Also, Dunta is playing well (which is why he's rarely targeted) ... but he has had at least 2 plays this year where he looked like he belonged in a 5 year old pee wee league (that sounds awfully harsh, and I'm loving what Dunta has done for the team overall, but still ... it is true). One thing that was particularly impressive today was the amount of pressure we got on the QB even with only 3 or 4 rushing. RE: The Atl D - KJinCton - 11-29-2010 08:54 AM I would love to see us stay aggressive when we have the lead. We tend to fall into prevent mode and give up all these short passes, hoping to not give up a quick score. That's great and all, but it tends to still lead to a score in the end. Either the defense is going to have to grow some balls and get in BVGs face and tell him..."here's how we're going to play now" or BVG has got to grow a pair himself. One things for sure...Mike Smith definitely has some brass ones...4th and 3 to keep the drive alive(albeit it was luck it wasn't challenged) and 4th and Goal at the 1 for the TD. You got to love the swagger that man has brought to the team. I brought a Packer fan to the game with me and he was on top of the world both times they stopped us on third down. I just looked at him, smiled and said..."you don't know Mike Smith, do you?" RE: The Atl D - Birdbrain - 11-29-2010 10:09 AM As long as they bow up when they need to,I don't care how many yards they give up.Pass D will always be high because the Run D is stout.Rodgers rush TD was the first in the RZ this year?Pretty good. RE: The Atl D - b3nz - 11-29-2010 11:55 AM our defense leaks so many yards in the 4th quarter because BVG always calls the freakin prevent every game. its also the main reason these games are getting so close, thank God we have Matty to win all these games. the way i see it, Matt Ryan is the reason BVG still has a job. RE: The Atl D - The Falcon Jedi - 11-29-2010 12:04 PM The only thing I dont like about our defense is we dont penetrate the Line very well. We need to draft another pass rusher after this season. RE: The Atl D - g-dawg - 11-29-2010 02:09 PM it seems to me that we are bend-don't-break type of defense by design......every single play almost the corners line up 10yds off the line of scrimmage. Doing that means you are basically conceding the 5-8 yard passes to the opponents where teams have decent QBs. I think BVG wants to be more aggressive but just does not have the defensive ends to do so. Right now until the pass rush gets significantly better we will continue to try and win games the way we are now. Control the clock and play keep away on offense and bend-don't-break offense. At this point, Julius Peppers and Jared Allen are not walking onto the field at Flowery Branch. Abe is hurt and other guys are pedestrian rushing passer. Bierrman has been somewhat of a disappointment this year - thought we would get more sacks/hurries out of him. Look for Falcons to address Defensive End in the draft in 2011. maybe in free agency as well. |
