Is there a way to do formatted text? - The Falcon Jedi - 11-03-2010 06:51 PM
Like with TAB spacing so everything can line up correctly? Other boards had this "Code" Mode where the text was pure Courier 10 pt. and you could tab-space between words so everything lined up and looked neat. Is that not available here yet?
Can we get that feature?

Just testing this out, but let's see how the php quantifier works:
PHP Code:
Cell 1 Cell 2 Cell 3 Cell 4 Cell 5 Cell 6 Cell 7 Cell 8 Cell 9
It works, yay!

Can you describe how you did that? For the rest of us? Thanks!

Sure, I opened up TextPad (NotePad will work for this too) and copied a tab. I then came in here and used the php button (or just type php in brackets) and typed each item with a cell between.
Edit: Turns out this doesn't insert tabs, just 4 spaces wherever you place a tab. See below:
PHP Code:
NFC SOUTH W L T PCT HOME ROAD DIV CONF PF PA DIFF STRK Atlanta 5 2 0 .714 3-0-0 2-2-0 1-0-0 3-1-0 169 133 +36 Won 1 Tampa Bay 5 2 0 .714 2-2-0 3-0-0 1-1-0 3-1-0 136 163 -27 Won 2 New Orleans 5 3 0 .625 3-2-0 2-1-0 2-1-0 4-2-0 167 148 +19 Won 1 Carolina 1 6 0 .143 1-3-0 0-3-0 0-2-0 1-5-0 85 150 -65 Lost 1
Thought I had found a solution, but only if you use the exact same amount of text before a tab. Sorry for the false alarm.

1 3 Patriots A favorable second-half schedule could set up the Patriots for a 12- or 13-win season.
2 4 Ravens Without much fanfare, the Ravens have quietly won four of their past five.
3 1 Steelers The Steelers showed they have several things to improve on in a loss to the Saints.
4 2 Jets The Jets' coaches outwitted themselves against the Packers by adding too much during the bye week.
5 6 Colts Remarkably, the injury-depleted Colts are back atop the AFC South.
6 5 Falcons Each of the Falcons' next five opponents won its most recent game. That includes the upstart Bucs, who visit Atlanta in Week 9.
7 9 Giants Eli Manning's next quest is conquering the crowd noise in Qwest Field on Sunday.
8 10 Packers The Packers haven't played defense like that since ... 2009.
9 7 Titans Their third-down defense was a disaster in San Diego and needs to be fixed during the bye week.
10 14 Saints The Saints needed a statement victory and they got one by shutting down the Steelers in a 20-10 triumph.
11 12 Chiefs Remember the last time Chiefs-Raiders meant something big? Me neither.
12 11 Eagles Michael Vick takes over as the starter and now we'll see if he can make a playoff run.
13 8 Texans That's not a playoff-caliber defense on the field for the Texans right now.
14 18 Buccaneers Hey, give Raheem Morris some credit for believing in his team. Josh Freeman can make a coach look smart.
15 16 Dolphins In the game-winning drive against the Bengals, QB Chad Henne had four long-overdue big plays.
16 23 Raiders Remember the last time Raiders-Chiefs meant something big? Me neither.
17 15 Bears For a team with a winning record, Chicago had plenty of issues to address at the bye.
18 13 Redskins Did Mike Shanahan trade for Donovan McNabb for a 58-minute game or 60?
19 25 Jaguars Jaguars are feeling great after a complete effort in Dallas got them to .500 for their bye.
20 17 Seahawks The healthier, rested Giants will test the Seahawks' ability to win at Qwest Field under tough circumstances.
21 20 Rams If the Seahawks and Cards lose in Week 9, the Rams could claim at least a share of first place with a Week 10 victory at the 49ers.
22 24 Chargers Can the Chargers sustain what they found against the Titans against the Texans in Houston?
23 19 Vikings It's time for Brad Childress to polish up his resume.
24 21 Cardinals The Cardinals' QBs are on pace for 11 TD passes and 27 INTs over the course of a 16-game season.
25 22 Bengals If it wasn't for the Cowboys and Vikings, the Bengals would be the NFL's biggest disappointment.
26 28 Browns Coming off the bye, can Eric Mangini beat his former mentor, Bill Belichick, and the Patriots?
27 30 Lions The Lions could be a dangerous spoiler.
28 27 Broncos The Broncos' point differential of minus-69 is second only to winless Buffalo's minus-80.
29 26 Cowboys The Cowboys are a good two-minute team, playing good for two minutes and bad for 58.
30 31 49ers The 49ers needed their bye week earlier in the season, but they need one now, too, after the London trip.
31 29 Panthers The contrast between the Rams' Sam Bradford and the Panthers' QBs had to be tough for the Panthers to stomach.
32 32 Bills WR Steve Johnson and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick are creating some excitement for the winless Bills.
RE: Is there a way to do formatted text? - Stewie - 11-04-2010 10:03 AM
I used the CODE function in HTML to line up the above examples in a pretty decent way. In the 1st Example, there is some formatting issues due to the use of 4 character titles (HOME, ROAD, and CONF) vs. the 3 character information underneath (1-3, 3-0, etc.).
In the second example, I made them all universal (3 characters) and it lined up great. That may not be possible for every graph, but at least it gets it a little better lined up...
All I did was format my grid in any text editor (I used word), then I copied and pasted it in the reply box in the forum.
Then, I put [ CODE ] (without spaces) before the grid, and [ / CODE ] after (again without spaces) the grid, and had pretty decent formatting.
I am sure there is a better solution, but this is at least a workable fix.

Very similar to what I did, except I counted the highest number of characters in each field (in the case of the TEAM column, Buccaneers was longest at 10) and added the required number of spaces to line it up. Not perfect, but it'll work until we can figure something else out.
