Lofton becoming the LB we all wanted - Polar Bear Jones - 10-28-2010 04:01 PM

Since the hammer retired I have been waiting for a guy like this. Do not get me wrong Brook was really solid and a pros pro but this kid has exactly what we need if we are going to that next level. A lot of guys have been making the flashy plays this season and are getting very much deserved attention frome the national media lately but they still seem to be sleeping on Curtis Lofton. He has been a solid player from the beginning but the guy has been making big plays this season and I hope he keeps it up. Curtis Lofton leads the Falcons with 58 tackles. He also has two sacks, two forced fumbles 3 passes defenses and one interception. Go Check the other MLBs and tell me he is not putting up elite Lb numbers.

Coaches
Mike Smith
“You can’t be anointed as the leader,’’ Smith said. “You’ve got to play efficiently and you’ve got to play effectively. You’ve got to walk the walk, and he does that. Curtis has earned the right to be a leader, and the fact he earned it is what’s going to make him good at it.’’

Mike Singletrary
"He plays the position the way it’s supposed to be played,"

Media
"Curtis Lofton, linebacker, Falcons. He’s been a pretty good middle linebacker in his first two seasons. But the knock on Lofton was that he didn’t make big plays, and he talked this summer about how he wanted to change that. It’s happening. In Sunday’s victory against San Francisco, Lofton had nine tackles, a sack and an interception. A few more big plays and Lofton could be a strong candidate for the Pro Bowl."

Teammates
William Moore
it's odd because he's a linebacker, but he's been doing a great job with the off-the-field stuff. Making sure that I keep grinding and that I keep my head up.

Peria Jerry
“Big Bro? Big Bro? He’s the Big Bro,’’ Jerry said in a sing-song cadence. “That’s what we all call him. If things aren’t going right, Curtis is going to tell you. That’s why I call him Big Bro. It’s his defense. If he’s saying something, then you know something’s not right. People respect him when he tells you something.’’

Probowl voters lets get it done, Lets put the Five-O in Hawaii.

Lofton will be our anchor on D for many years to come. It's good to hear that he has stepped up as the leader that our team needs. With the youth that we have on D, something like that gives the defensive unit something/someone to model themselves after. People like Moore and Spoon and Jerry (just to name a few) are key pieces for our young defense. The good thing about Lofton being on their ass is that he can lead by example because he is a straight bad ass. It's encouraging to hear our young players looking up to Lofton, especially if we keep our core players for many years.

C-Lo is beastin this season. He should get even more props than he does because he's a MLB in a 43. Lewis and Willis both are in 34s, as are most successful MLBs. Only 43 MLB that gets a > over him right now would be Ryans in Houston. Everyone else there is at least a debate.

DeMeco Ryans his out right now if I remember correctly; for a chunk of the season too.

Its amazing that we drafted our leaders of the offense and defense in the same draft in the 1st and 2nd round...

When Curtis Lofton hits the ball carrier, they stay hit! There are very few yards after contact. Just what we need.

He reminds me a lot of Jessie Tuggle.

You're right. Guess that makes C-Lo the best 43 MLB in the league Smile

Didn't he set a record for fumble recoveries for touchdowns?
