Did you guys hear about this Former Pro Bowl Honors thing? - kibitzer - 10-02-2010 12:10 AM I was listening to 680, and they were talking about a rumour that went around that said the organization initially wanted to exclude Meangelo from this event. Basically said that Blank had to make the final decision, and made the right one to include him after all. He's been "douche-y" towards the organization since he left, but the sportsjocks made a good point that if this were to be true, and they did try to exclude him, then they're just lowering themselves to his level of d-baggery. Perhaps TD's comments below refer to Meangelo as well, and could be others too. I do like how his name was not specifically mentioned in the article, and instead they used "among others". ![]() FALCONS TO HONOR FORMER PRO BOWL PERFORMERS DURING ALUMNI WEEKEND By: Jay Adams | September 30th, 2010 The Atlanta Falcons this weekend will honor their former players with a number of special events and ceremonies that are part of the club’s annual Alumni Weekend festivities, the team announced today. More than 100 former Falcons alumni, including 30 players who were named to the National Football Conference Pro Bowl team as member of the Falcons, will be in town this weekend participating in a number team-sponsored events, celebrations and ceremonies. “We’re honoring our alumni with a series of events and celebrations this weekend and plan to recognize former Falcons named to the NFC Pro Bowl during their playing days here with our club,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “There are also plans to honor current NFL players who made the Pro Bowl as Falcons during the offseason at the appropriate time.” The former Pro Bowl Falcons are being recognized in connection with “Throwback Weekend,” which features current players donning the team’s original 1966 uniforms that were introduced last season for the first time. The Falcons (2-1) will wear their original uniforms Sunday at the Georgia Dome when they face the San Francisco 49ers (0-3). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The Falcons posted a 2-0 record when they wore their throwback uniforms last season. WOOT!!!! <-- kibitzer The organization invited back all retired players named to the NFC Pro Bowl squad during their playing days. Falcons Pro Bowlers from different eras in the club’s history will be in attendance, including DE Claude Humphrey, S Rolland Lawrence, RB Gerald Riggs, QB Steve Bartkowski, CB Scott Case, WR Terance Mathis and RB Warrick Dunn, among others. It's very childish and beneath all of us and comes off as very middle schoolish. And I don't even like the guy. RE: Did you guys hear about this Former Pro Bowl Honors thing? - bF™ - 10-02-2010 06:55 AM Were 2-0 in the the throwbacks but we also had 3 serious injuries in them. :/ RE: Did you guys hear about this Former Pro Bowl Honors thing? - TankWorkman - 10-02-2010 07:00 AM I'm looking forward to the ceremony. I sure wish I could get Bartkowski to sign my Authentic Helmet. I only have Tommy Nobis and Jeff Van Note on it now. RE: Did you guys hear about this Former Pro Bowl Honors thing? - Peyton - 10-02-2010 11:22 AM We had a thread on this several days ago, but I'll review for you exactly how it went down: PFT reported that the Falcons were planning on honoring everyone except Hall. Then PFT reported that Blank didn't want to stoop to that, and he was going to make the final decision. Then D. Ledbetter reported the Falcons were going to honor everybody, including Hall. Then the Falcons sent a statement to PFT with their official position that "active players will be honored in the off season". I think, when the Falcons thought it through, the thought of honoring any of the existing players didn't seem to appealing. None of them had graceful exits from the team. RE: Did you guys hear about this Former Pro Bowl Honors thing? - kibitzer - 10-02-2010 11:41 AM All that makes sense. Sorry I was late w/it, but I don't get as many chances to post threads during the workweek. Hopefully Rod Coleman makes it out to join in. I know he was a short timer here, but he did ok and had one probowl during his stay. RE: Did you guys hear about this Former Pro Bowl Honors thing? - The Falcon Jedi - 10-02-2010 01:21 PM Im not really approving of honoring Active players that are not on this team. Seems kind of pointless to me since they are on another team and basically competing against us. Like Keith Brooking, who made it a point to act like a complete ass-clown against us last year. And DeAngelo Hall? After what he did on our sideline last year? Are we also honoring Mike Vick? Seriously? |
