So what we have is a team that needs new talent on a lines with a FO that has proven they are incapable of finding talent for the lines. We need pieces on the OL and DL, not to mention LB, the same positions that we have needed pieces at for years now and have been unable to find but we are supposed to find these pieces in one off season? Additionally what we have is a QB that obviously isn't very good at extending plays, we have known this for years, but at the same time our FO has built an OL that only a QB that has the ability to extend plays can thrive behind. Basically, the FO has either ignored our most obvious weaknesses for 6 years running or they have absolutely no idea how to find guys in the trenches. I get what you are saying but I guess I just don;t get where all of the confidence is coming from.
You can "trust in TD" all you want but it is his team building philosophy that has us in this mess. Not only do we lack talent on the lines but we lack depth at crucial positions. You mentioned the Packers and Patriots in another post in a different thread. The Packers won the SB with half their team on IR and the Patriots are still winning this year with half of their guys on IR. Either we lack the talent and depth necesary to stay competitive even after guys go down or we lack the coaching to stay competitive when guys go down.
My point is this year we went all in. We signed players in an effort to fill gaps to win now. It didn't work because too many of those players got hurt. It happened there was nothing that could have been done to stop it. The Packers and Pats both had down years and rebounded to win super bowls. If you want to lament the Falcons and say they will never win again go ahead that's your prerogative as a fan. But we have enough talent to win 13 games last year when healthy. We addressed the secondary and defensive lines in this years draft. Its unfortunate that none of those players turned into all-pros on their first play but that is why you draft and build for the future.
In modern sports any team is one or two players or philosophy changes away from moving to the next level. Put Aaron Rodgers or Matt Ryan in Jacksonville and they are a winning team. Free Agency and salary caps make it easy to turn a team into a winner quickly as long as you have the parts.
Denver was 8-8 under Tebow. They sign Manning and go to 13-3. Then they add more weapons for him and now they are one of the best offenses in NFL history. Their offense has been injury free. Had White not stumbled out of the gate injured and then Jackson and then Jones our numbers would have been great as well. Their D on the other hand is awful.
There are no 3-5 year rebuilds anymore. We add the pieces we win. We have the hard pieces already in place. Franchise QB and great weapons on offense. We just went after the wrong pieces in the offseason we need more help on the offensive line.
