Matt Ryan is ready to go. Ditto with Julio Jones and Roddy White. Based on last night's performance, there are very few other Falcons I could say that about. I guess Babs looked pretty disruptive out there and so did Abraham, those were two standouts on the starting defensive unit.
85% of the Falcons playbook is the same as it was under Mularkey, but I do like some of the new wrinkles.
I might just be imagnining this, but it looks to me like Matt is getting back into his drops much faster than before and he is dropping deeper on play action passes. Maybe this is an effort to stop the pocket from getting pushed back in his face as often as it did last year.
I've never heard of Marcus Jackson before last night, and certainly he did not do anything spectacular that I saw(but I didn't see his last catch), but I love the way the guy comes back for the football. You see a lot of WR in the league, even start WRs, who don't do that. I think he is a guy to watch.
The Falcons dropped back to pass 67 times and called 14 run plays. WOW. As I've said a lot of times, to me the Falcons biggest problem last year was the inability to pick up one yard when they needed it. I'm not sure the play selection makes me feel better that they are moving toward being able to get that one tough yard.
And on a related note. The Falcons OL sucks at run blocking. Terrible.
4. Don't worry about the run/pass ratio. Koetter will take what is given to him. Keep in mind that Smith spent most of the off season talking about saving Turner's legs for the play offs. We are using the preseason for what it is intended......getting ready for THE MARCH.
You're crazy if you don't think Meier will make the cut. That's just ignorant.
Dude has been the 2nd best receiver in camp and probably has the best receiving hands outside of Tony, but best among the WR's. He's big, can block, run crisp routes, and plays good ST. In the first PS game last week, with HD out, Meier started in the slot for the entire time the 1st team was in.
There's 1 spot open in the receiving corps behind the main 4. Maybe 2 if they take a chance on James Rodgers.
Meir has to start doing something in games even pre season games. He is starting to simply be a practice warrior to me, I was happy with the guy but now i actually want to see him produce on the field.

I really don't see why so many are worried about our run offense. While many people have complimented our run offense for the last three seasons, I have never really seen it as a true strength. Yes, the numbers are there, but we have been having trouble getting the tough yards when they have been needed. For that reason, our red zone offense has been mediocre.
Intelligently, our coaches and FO recognize that this league requires that an offense must be able to pass before it can truly run the ball.
The Falcons have been concentrating on getting its pass offense in order. Once that happens, the run will come, and it will be there when we most need it.
Agreed. The Falcons were 17th in the NFL in rushing yards last year and had trouble in short yardage situations. The Falcons haven't been good at running the ball in short yardage situations since we let go of Harvey Dahl.
So one year?
Turner has led the NFC in rushing the last two years. And finished 2nd or higher 3 out of the last 4.
It's hard to get short yardage when everyone knows its coming. Better play calling will help more than getting Harvey Dahl back.
