Big weekend for Birds in every way

Other than Carolina winning (which we had pretty muched penciled in)

Eagles just lost
Bears Lost
GB lost

Only 3 teams with 6 and 3 record now. Us, Tampa and Washington.

If we don’t win the devision (but we can) we are definitely in the wildcard hunt after this week.

Playoffs, Playoffs?

Yep I think we can start thinking this way! Would any of us thought like this at the beginning? Amazing turnaround for our Falcons

Falcons 34, Saints 20: Could the Atlanta Falcons Be Playoff Bound?

If you’re looking for coach of the year, hand the trophy to Falcons coach Mike Smith–no matter how many game Jeff Fisher and the Titans wins. If you’re looking for a rookie of the year, you could do a lot worse than Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. If you’re looking for the free agent acquisition of the year, Falcons running back Michael Turner has to be near the top of the list.

And if you’re trying to figure out who from the NFC will be around come playoff time, you have to consider the Falcons. Actually typing that sentence seems almost impossible to believe just a year after the Bobby Petrino fiasco.

The Falcons were clearly the superior team as they laid out a beat down on the Saints, potentially ending the Saints playoff hopes in the process. Pay no attention to the final score–the Saints scored a touchdown in the final seconds to cut the final margin of victory to a more respectable 14 points, but the Falcons led 20-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

Ryan outplayed Drew Brees. Jerious Norwood provided the big play with a 65-yard touchdown catch and Turner had his usual productive day. And after proving once again that they are for real, the Falcons players are having trouble not thinking about the playoffs:

For anybody who wanted to take note, the Falcons defensive end said it’s OK to go ahead and pencil the Falcons in the playoffs.

“Definitely, I felt that from the first game and I’m going to keep saying it until we make it,” Abraham said. “We play good as a team. That’s the best thing that you could say right now.”

Atlanta still needs to win at least four games in a very competitive NFC to make the playoffs, but with very winnable games against the Broncos and Chargers in the next three weeks, that looks doable.

The Saints, on the other hand, are just about done. In many seasons, 4-5 would be OK, but with 10 NFC teams at 5-4 or better, it would take a miracle, and a better conference record than their current 2-4 mark to have a realistic shot of turning things around.

Why Brees was so ticked

Why Brees was so ticked , He with the saints ususally beats us. He started in 2006 and they won all 4 games till today, probaly thought Atlanta was a pushover. Guess he has a new appreciation of the rivalry now, since he now got his azz kicked. tongue.gif

Keith Brooking

I have been a Keith Brooking fan in the past and I “like the guy”. Having said that disclaimer, I strongly feel that Keith Brooking is now a “net liability” on the field. Brooking consistently gets beat in pass coverage by the tight end and just does not generate any impact plays from his weakside linebacker position in my opinion.

While I agreed with Falcons keeping Brooking this year - in the name of “continuity” (you cannot cut every veteran!) - I feel that Brooking’s level of play does not warrant a starting job anymore. To make matters worse, Keith Brooking is grossly overpaid at this point in his career with a $7 million salary - 2nd in the NFL at the linebacker position behind Ray Lewis.

I just think after the 2009 season, it will be “time” for Brooking to either gracefully accept a HUGE cut in salary and a back-up role OR maybe gently encourage him to retire……..

Those are my feelings on the subject. However the purpose of the poll is just to take the temperature of the messageboard to see what you guys think of Keith Brooking’s play this year……….

please vote! thanks!

Matt Ryan: Crazy Stats for a Rookie

Dan Marino set a rookie record with a 96 passer rating, and became the first rookie QB to start in the Pro Bowl.

Greg Cook (Bengals, 1969) Had a psser rating of 88. Without his injury could have been great!

After Matt Ryan’s Rookie year you should see his name added to this list: ESPN: Best Rookie QB ever

Matt Ryan: QB rating of 89.9

He is on pace for 3394 yards passing, 20 TD’s, 9 ints, with 60% completion rate.

In actuality he may do eve better since his stats for the last 5 starts are

Averaging: 248 yards passing, 1.8 TD’s, and .6 int’s, with a completion rate of 66%

with a QB rating in the last 5 games at 108

By the way, his rating in the last 2 games in an average of 136.2. WOW!

If the Falcons don’t get any love on the next Madden update

The Falcons have been completely showing out in the season and have not been getting any love on the madden update. This better change! I wanna see Matt Ryan’s accuracy go up to 90 range, I wanna see Jenkins get off the 79 rating he has, bump up the O-line to atleast the middle to high 80 rating range. And for the LOVE OF GOD, Give the Secondary SOME LOVE (3 interceptions, and 8 Pass Defensed!!!, angainst the Best QB in the League!!!) Madden need to Man Up and boost the falcons, so I can finally play with them online, and not lose.
