Falcons: DeAngelo Hall Wanted to Fight

Who knows if it had anything to do with the Raiders decision to release him (it’s not like his awful play didn’t make the decision easy enough), but according to Falcons linebacker Keith Brooking, DeAngelo Hall was working to ensure the Falcons remembered him as being absolutely crazy.

“One of our ex-players, sitting there in the tunnel, waiting on us to come through the halftime to pick a fight with one of my teammates,” Brooking told Atlanta’s AM 680 The Fan. “I’m just sitting there as I’m going to the locker room thinking, ‘Geez, man, I mean, I’m so glad we’re removed from all that mess.’ You know, because of the camaraderie that we have as a team from a players standpoint, the relationships we’ve developed with our coaches. I mean, it’s a great working relationship.”

It doesn’t take much code cracking to figure out it was DeAngelo Hall, which is exactly what Pro Football Talk did. Hall seems to be about the second least-popular member of the 2007 Falcons, falling just behind quitter/coach Bobby Petrino. Hall’s temper has always been a problem–something he showed with a meltdown against Steve Smith that cost the Falcons a win early in the 2007 season. But to be dumb enough to try to pick a fight during halftime is a whole new level of stupid. If Hall was that fired up, he’d get a chance to take it out on the Falcons on the field. But since Hall was getting toasted all over the field, apparently he decided he had to take a different approach.

Yes, I am the moron that left 67 points on the bench in the form of Jay Cutler and Eddie Royal. Laugh all you want.

As of now, Sam Baker’s Dozen is running away with the league with an 8-1 record.

The Saints Will Hurt Against Falcons Without Reggie Bush

The Falcons are going to have a tough time against the Saints this weekend. I don’t wish to alarm you, but they have a few guys over there who are very good at playing “offense.” They might even “score” a few “touchdowns” on us. “Oh no.”

Still, it’s heartening to hear that Reggie Bush won’t be at the Dome. Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while have a pretty good idea of where I stand on Bush. I think he’s vastly overrated as running back, but his value as a pass-catching back is undeniable. The more options Drew Brees has against the Falcons, the more likely he is to fry us as he’s done so many hapless defenses this year.

The Saints also insist on using Deuce McAllister, who as recently as a couple of years ago was an elite back but is little more than a league average starting running back now. If the Falcons can get their bread-and-butter first quarter points on the board, the team will have to pass often and won’t have the luxury of looking to Bush. If the Falcons can get the pass rush going–something several of you having been calling for all year–they could really do some damage in a game that’s likely to be a shootout one way or another.

I may be drinking a pitcher of delicious blue raspberry Kool-Aid here, but I think the Falcons will be able to apply enough defense to hold the Saints to 28 points or fewer. With a less-than-fantastic defense going against them, the Falcons should be able to come up with more than that. I really do believe the difference maker will be the absence of Bush.

For thoughts that seem likely to completely differ from mine, make sure you’re heading over to Canal Street Chronicles throughout the weekend. Those poor buggers seem pretty convinced they’re going to win!

Where’s the Love?

There are so many bright spots this year for the ATL Falcons, but where’s the love for Jonathan Babineaux? Guy has been playing out of his mind this season. I like to listen to the radio broadcast, and those guys are always calling his number. This is especially great when you think about this past off-season and how everyone pointed to our need for a DT. Babs has really filled that spot and anchored the DLine. If Babineaux keeps this up and we draft a DT this year, we could have one of the best DLines in the game next year.

So here’s to you Babs, keep it up!

Anyone know the status of Jamaal Anderson? Is he expected to play tomorrow?

BLANK SAYS HALL NEEDS TO GROW UP

QUOTE
BLANK SAYS HALL NEEDS TO GROW UP
Posted by Mike Florio on November 8, 2008, 3:16 p.m.

As the Washington Redskins begin to get acquainted with their newest teammate, one of his former bosses has publicly declared that DeAngelo Hall needs to grow up.

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s the quote to Sirius NFL Radio’s Press Coverage with Vic Carucci and Dan Leberfeld, from Falcons owner Arthur Blank.

“Well, I think he needs to grow up,” Blank said of Hall. “When you talk to DeAngelo personally, he’s got a lovely wife, kids. He’s smart. He obviously hasn’t played to the, I mean, he’s got tremendous physical abilities. He’s got tremendous capabilities. There’s no question about that. He’s a superior athlete but he just hasn’t played consistently at that level and I think to some extent he has to be able to channel his emotions more productively on the field and in the locker room in a way that supports the system that he’s in.”

Though Hall apparently is counting on a long-term deal with the Redskins, he’ll need to show that he’s taking Blank’s advice to heart before the ‘Skins will enter into anything more than a two-month blind-date arrangement with their latest arrival.

Not trying to get all of yall all crazy but does this leave the door open ?
