will a 7-9 team make the playoffs?

They need to change the damn rules. Some 10-6 team likely won't make the playoffs so the NFC west can send someone....That is a damn shame (unless we have the #1 seed and they upset someone in the wildcard round )

it would suck for a team to miss out on the playoffs to allow a 7-9 team in. we arent guaranteed a playoff berth, that would piss me off if we missed so the seahawks could get in, or if we had to watch a team like that get in ahead of the giants eagles bears saints etc simply for winning a division

didn't pats go 11-5 a couple of years ago and not make the playoffs? that's the way it's set up. AZ shouldn't have beat us and went all the way in 08 either, but thats why the games are played on the field and not on paper

If you win your division you win your division. That's what makes the NFL exciting. It could happen in either West division. The AFC West doesn't look all that dominant either.

I get that, but it can make for some boring, blowout playoff games, while the "also-rans" get eliminated.

I guess. But that's what everyone said about the Cards in 08 and they were one spectacular catch away from winning the super bowl.
