I made this point on the other board. We have weapons on offense but unlike the Colts, Saints, Pats ('07), etc., we are a RUN 1st team. We run, we run, we run. It's not "sexy", it doesn't always lead to a lot of points, and for that reason I think we're often discredited as an underachieving offense. We give Mularkey grief, but Smith likes this gameplan. 4 yards, 5 yards, 2 yards and so on and so on and then a 55 yard run...a 12 yard run...that wears the other team down. I think that's a part of it anyway. The other thing is, these "experts" have a lot of ego...and since it's so early in the season a lot of them refuse to accept that maybe they were wrong about who might be a good team, who stinks, and who the team to beat is. I still say we're a few weeks away from knowing who really is good and who isn't. |

RE: why are we hated so much?
i don't think they know what to make of the Falcons to be honest.. The darling NFC teams (Saints, Cowboys, Vikings, Packers) are struggling so they don't know what to do.. If we keep winning they'll get the picture.

RE: why are we hated so much?
It's simple from a marketing standpoint - There is not a huge fan base to gain from focusing on the Atlanta Falcons, not yet....If success is sustained for several years then there will be but for now I understand them focusing on Dallas, both New York teams, New England, Indy, Green Bay and so on

We're hated because we're the Atlanta Falcons.

I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't! |

RE: why are we hated so much?
I think this quote from Gregg Easterbrook on ESPN about sums it up:
Quote:Atlanta, by contrast, is on a 7-1 run with the sole defeat in overtime. Why are the Falcons below the radar? It might be that they do nothing distinctive; it might be their children's-pajamas-style uniforms. But Atlanta is solid on both sides of the ball and has an easy ride ahead with two games remaining against winless Carolina. I watched Atlanta drip-drip-drip its way to victory against Cleveland and tried to think of something flashy to say about the Falcons. I couldn't. But expect them to be a factor in the postseason. |
