After that #1 though, we may very well pick 3 straight offensive linemen. I would be shocked if we invested that much into a change of pace/utility player, though I could see us drafting a WR that could see some return time like Dez Bryant. I doubt we draft many offensive linemen, considering we invested for the future with Johnson and Hawley last year. In other news... I see you're back!

Except we have 3 starters on the OL that will be FA's after this year, an underperforming LT, & an aging C. We won't re-sign all 3 FA's. Likely only 1, maybe 2 if they don't go nuts with how much they want. That leaves 2 rookies + Reynolds + Svitek + Valdez to fill 2 spots/cover depth, & that just doesn't look too impressive to me. And with Baker being so inconsistent on top of that, I can definitely see us taking 2-3 OL's high in the draft. And unless we take a big injury at a key position, I really think we find Norwoods replacement at the #1 spot. Norwood is an FA this year too, so I REALLY doubt we re-sign him. It would be considered a huge WTF?? type of decision if we did. And I have a feeling TG will play another year, especially if we go deep in the playoffs. If we win the SB somehow though, he'll retire for sure. But I think he'll play one more at least & we'll pick a TE high in 2012. |

And with Baker being so inconsistent on top of that, I can definitely see us taking 2-3 OL's high in the draft. Norwood is done in my book. ACL injury, he's been nicked up non-stop most of his career, and his contract is going to be up. Norwood's role wasn't high priority. You simply do not draft a back-up RB/KR/PR/utility player in the 1st round. If we go after that type, expect it to be in the 2nd or probably 3rd round. 1st round though just doesn't fit our philosophy up unto this point. I could see us signing one, drafting one potentially high, and maybe even hitting FA for someone. I think McClure has one year left in him at most, and would certainly retire if he got a ring. Hawley was specifically drafted to be his replacement. I'm not high on Blalock, but I haven't watched the games as much this year as I did last. We may sign him back, we may not. He's had his ups and downs this year, but Mike Johnson was drafted as a LG. With Dahl, I think we probably resign him. Whether you like him or not, you cannot deny the staff loves the guy. With Clabo, I think the guy is better suited for guard, but has performed well this year. We may resign him, we may shift him to guard if we don't resign Dahl. Based on various quips I've heard dating back to 09, I know the staff likes Reynolds. With Baker... yeesh. He better turn it around in a HUGE way coming out of the bye week, because his play so far this year has been bottom of the garbage heap kinda bad. He's going to get Ryan killed... he lost his man on the play that led to Ryan getting turf toe'd last year and gave up the hit that knocked Ryan out of the game for a play as well. FA maybe? Regardless, it would make no sense to draft more than 2 OL for next year. Only one would start at best, and the rest would be depth. |

If we go after that type, expect it to be in the 2nd or probably 3rd round. 1st round though just doesn't fit our philosophy up unto this point. It's too bad our FO likes Dahl so much, he's really quite average at best. Good leader, but very average at his job. And you're right, our line is definitely undersized. Valdez (if he can step up his game from the PS) & Reynolds would help fix that problem as both of them are freakishly huge. And oddly enough, McClure is still probably our most consistently good O-linemen even though he's by far the smallest of the group. I agree, I think he goes one more year after this one then Hawley takes his place. And I know nobody drafts O-linemen to start unless they're top 10, but we do still need to replace depth if we lose 2 FA's, have an issue at LT, & McClure only has 1 more year in him. Although Valdez coming from the PS would likely fill one of those spots, so maybe you're right. Probably get 2 OL's at most. As for the #1 pick, again it's not JUST to replace Norwood, it's more so for a bona fide ST return guy & someone to add another dimension to spreading out the field, either through slot receiver or HB screens or reverses or whatever. If there's a Bush, McCluster, or Hester type player, who can really help open up the offense while being that huge threat in the return game as well, still available at our pick I think we jump on it in a heart beat. |

Weems is decent but he doesn't seem to have the "take it to the house" speed.

It would be nice to see some explosiveness from the return game, and I thought Franks was drafted for just that, but I guess he hasn't caught on yet or the coaches haven't seen a need to put him out there yet. Meh... This! ^^^ Franks seemed extremely timid all pre-season handling the return duties. I'm sure he'll get better but not this year. Season Ticket Holder Sec. 341 Row 1 |
