reviewing the steelers game;looking towards week 2
OFFENSE
- overall i felt ryan played well considering he had no run game, on the road in a hostile enviornment against a great defense. he didn't make many mistakes and did a good job moving the ball after the offense got settled in. - our oline played horrible for the most part. they were getting moved by the steelers front 7 with ease in the run game and they were in our backfield in no time. turner had no place to go. in the pass game the steelers were getting a nice rush on us and ryan did a good job maneuvering in the pocket. - i think our receivers played pretty good. there weren't many drops. they struggled to get open at times but that will happen against the steelers D. DEFENSE - our run D was very good. aside from the one mental lapse in OT they held mendenhall to 70 yards on 21 carries (3.3 ypc avg) - i felt our pass rush was pretty good as well. we had 3 sacks, but i can remember about 3 other plays where abe or biermann had dixon trapped, but his mobility got him out of trouble. those would've been sacks against any other qb. - our pass D played "ok" as well. dixon had a high comp % (69) but a lot of his passes were checkdowns or screens. hines ward absolutely killed us though. i felt like DR played decent out there. i can only remember 3 catches he gave up in man to man coverage. i think our pass D will improve with time. SPECIAL TEAMS - they played ok for the most part but had some mental lapses late in the game that really screwed us. LOOKING TOWARDS THE CARDINALS GAME WEEK 2 i think having babineaux back next week will really help. abe and BEER-man looked really good last week imo. add in babs (pushing the pocket from the middle) and we should have a pretty solid pass rush/run D this season. babineaux also gets a lot of TFLs in the run game which helps a lot. we have GOT to play well against the cardinals run game. derek anderson isn't a great qb, but pair him up with some elite receivers (think cleveland in 07) and he can make some plays. if we can shut down the cards run game we'll be able to unleash the pass rush on 3rd and long. he's not the most mobile qb in the world, so we should get to him. shutting down the run game also takes away the PA pass (FITZ). our offense needs to get on track. we've got to get the run game going and get ryan more time in the pocket. i think we'll be able to do both though. while the cards D isn't crap, they aren't the steelers either. if we get off to a fast start at home like we usually do, it could get ugly for the cardinals. this game is MUST WIN GAME. we have NO on the road week 3. |

RE: reviewing the steelers game;looking towards week 2
We need our run game to start moving the chains, and hopefully they involve Norwood abit more (how long have we been saying that tho)

Nice analysis. I agree with a must win, especially with N.O. the week after. If we can get in a groove on offense and play great defense like I know they can. They can get a great thing started. No injuries from the game is also a great job by the players and the staff,

Do you see what I did there? haha
