RE: rank the best Falcons QBs
From wikipedia

Bartkowski was chosen with the first overall pick in the 1975 NFL Draft, ahead of Walter Payton, by the Atlanta Falcons and was the NFL Rookie of the Year as well as The Sporting News NFC Rookie of the Year in 1975. He was the first client of sports agent Leigh Steinberg.

Bartkowski is one of only eight quarterbacks in NFL history who have achieved consecutive 30-touchdown passing seasons (1980 & 1981) at least one time in their career. The others are Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Dan Fouts, Jeff Garcia, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Y.A. Tittle. Bartkowski was selected to the Pro Bowl after both the 1980 and 1981 seasons and was selected 2nd Team All-NFC following the 1980 campaign. Bartkowski led the NFL in passing in 1983 with a passer rating of 97.6.

Also, not sure if its true but I remember people saying he threw the ball end zone to end zone in college.

Yeah, I know it was rigged, but that was just an analogy of what it was like watching Bart. I know he threw an 89 yarder in a game once.

Dude had a rocket launcher.

Remember that commercial with Vick - where he threw the football and it went out of the stadium? (loved that)

Watching Bart was like that. He would stand on one side of the field and the ball would go to the other.

He was king of the Hail Mary. I've seen him stand on one side of the field - at the 10 yard line and throw it nearly 90 yards across the field. I am not exaggerating this - I saw it.

Then there was the other thing - he not only had a cannon - he had touch. So many big armed QBs have the power - but not the finesse - he did.

Those are the things I remember most about him. He was fun to watch. When we had William Andrews running and the Alfreds and Bennett and a defense to die for.

I will never understand why those teams never made it to the SB. We had some really, really good teams.

The non call on Ed Too Tall Jones and they would have been there.

He threw the nicest long ball I have ever seen....its Bartkowski in his prime and then any other Falcons QB you might think of after that..

You can't take anything away from Chandler that year. He was the unquestioned leader of the team. He got us there whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

Yes, it took the team - it always does. But, time and again, I see threads on these boards about how the key ingredient in getting to the superbowl is the QB - and it's true in 99.9% of the cases.

Chandler deserves every credit for being the QB that led us to the SB - he and only he has done that so far.

Excellent post...Chandler doesn't get the recognition he deserves in Falcons history. Its partly because he was here, having taken the Falcons to the SuperBowl, when ynw came along....the media and the fans couldn't wait to move him aside for the "chosen one" so they kept creating negative attention around him. I'll never forget AJC headlines that first year that said things like "Vick and Chandler combine for 300 yards"......when Chandler had 275 yards passing and Vick had the rest.....LMAO.

RE: rank the best Falcons QBs
Chandler - for being a tough dude and getting us to the Superbowl

Bartkowski - Tandy has already spelled it out, but man could he throw! long ball, with touch and rarely ever threw a pass that wasn't a perfect spiral. It always looked like a bullet out of a rifle barrel when Bart threw it.

Matt Ryan - ok, it's early in his career, and i have no doubt when his career is done he'll own all the stat records. RIGHT NOW HE HAS THE BEST WINNING PERCENTAGE, has gotten us to the playoffs 2 of his 3 years here (you doubt we get there this year?)

Chris Miller - i liked watching him play. the talent level around him was bad.

Vick - as much as i hate him now, he was indeed fun to watch. Always had the notion that when he got the ball in his hands, he could take it to the house. Throws a good pass, like Bart, it usually looks like a bullet out of the rifle barrel. When we drafted Norwood, watching those two on the field together at the same time was incredible.

Last but not least, from 71 - 73, we had a QB named "Dick Shiner" follow the link in a previous post and look it up if you don't believe me. Ya have to KNOW he had a rough childhood growing up with a name like that....

Chew on THAT, Petunia!
