Has the league's new hardcore stance on hits have Dunta Robinson doubting himself?

Dunta's game has always been a physical style of play. He is known as a very good open field tackler and a hard-hitting defender. Did his hefty fine change him? Uncharacteristically, he missed a couple of tackles against the Packers. One of the missed tackles resulted in a thirty yard gain. Is Dunta confused about what he can and can not do?

Good question. Dunta was always known as a good TACKLER and not just a hitter, so I don't think the rules would/should affect his play. But you're right, it could be a mental thing.

My wish is that they try to hit clean but don't hold back either with full knowledge that sometimes you'll cross the line. In those cases secretly spread the fine and keep playing tough.

Personnaly I doubt the fine made a difference because I believe that in Dunta's mind (and mine as well) it was a clean hit and he just got the shaft. I bet it's had a bigger effect on Jackson.

We saw it in the Bears game actually. Jackson gator armed a ball because he heard footsteps. Its happened a few times in recent weeks, which is one of the reasons he is being scrutizined at the moment.

Every CB misses a tackle every now and then. The difference is, does he still come up to make tackles on a RB? He did it on a screen pass, blowing it up against the Packers.

Dunta will be fine. I'm more concerned with the scheme that keeps him 7 - 12 yards off the reciever at the line of scrimmage

He wont begin to reach his stride until the end of the season. He was out all preseason and a few games this year. You could see how shakey he was for the first few games. He progressively kept getting better. You have to think, this defense is Still trying to find itself. Many new players and a few coming of injuries.

If we didn't change a thing on D for 2 years you would see some amazing things from this current group. They need experience but more importantly they need to gel in a way that they can just look at each other and know what needs to happen. Pitt has a D like this and so do the Bears.

If anything, I would think the concussion would have made more impact on his game than the fine. Like Phocis said, he missed time this year, missed pre-season, missed time last year. He should be fine.

I agree. This is why I avoid all the 'player hater' threads. Predicting a player's future improvement (or decline) is a guessing game even for TD and I strongly suspect that he's better at it than any of us are.

Dunta pretty much admitted on FalconsLive that he struggled to adapt to the soft zone here from the man coverage that almost exclusively used in Houston. He said the footwork is different and there is much more backpeddling in this system. I believe it's a mix of missing the pre-season with injuries and adapting to this very conservative defensive scheme. I think Dunta will just get better as time goes on barring any inury setbacks.
