As stated by the poster after me, because the owner's instituted the lock-out.

Either way, expectations of any kind of player loyalty at the professional level is ridiculous. No team in the NFL shares any kind of loyalty to their players, and would cut them in a heartbeat if it meant a better alternative or saving money. Joe Montana, Drew Bledsoe, Donovan McNabb, etc. Where was the loyalty with those guys?

I'm all for loyalty to a team from a player, but until I see loyalty to a player from the team I don't expect it.
