Yet another reason I'm glad we have Ryan instead of Flacco (besides the unibrow)

Very good point but the detractors will say

It's just the option of him having them creates mis matchups . I believe Ryan from eye test was better his rookie season from getting down field , pocket presence , awareness and he surprised us all how well he played as a rookie . From a stat standpoint this was his best year .

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

RE: Yet another reason I'm glad we have Ryan instead of Flacco (besides the unibrow)
I love these threads, especially because I get to see what kind of stupid comments Swift can make about Matt Ryan being horrible. Then again, he didn't do it in this thread really.

But seriously, I find a hard time comparing Flacco and Ryan. No one can try and make an argument that Flacco DOESN'T benefit (In terms of wins) from his defense. There have been a huge amount of times where the only reason the Ravens won, or even were dominant (Even on offense) was because of their defense. We can say the same for Ryan this season on quite a few occasions where they got lucky and pulled a win out, but it wasn't because of the defense. Usually it's because of a freak play. Flacco doesn't have to make big plays with his arm. If he messes up, the game ALWAYS comes back to him because of the defense. So bad throws/off throws aren't under as much scrutiny for Flacco as they are for Ryan. A bad throw from Ryan can mean the game, even if it's just a 1st or 2nd down incomplete because the defense just isn't there yet.

And I don't see this situation as a bad thing from Flacco. He simply just wants to get a deal done as soon as possible so it's not on his mind. That's completely understandable. It's not like he says if he doesn't get an extension, he wants a trade or something.

Ryan, as a rookie, stepped up in the pocket and made down the middle, down-field throws with no hesitation and with great command.

Ryan the past 2 years has looked more and more hesitant in the pocket. Constantly throwing short outs to the sidelines, or dumpoffs to Gonzalez. Maybe this new QB coach will get Ryan back to his rookie form.

1/5 of Douglas' catches went for over 20 yards, he was ripping the seams out of the Chicago defense back in 08(pardon the pun). Now throw in some end-arounds that go for 20-30 yards every few games and you have an all-purpose threat in the slot that can pick up YAC and keep the defense off balance with misdirection plays.

With Norwood, you have the prototypical speed back that can beat a defense laterally and make explosive plays in the passing game to boot. We're talking multiple 20/40 yard rushing attempts(usually on outside runs) and little passes to the flats being taken 20+ yards.

While neither are all-world players, I'll put it another way. You think any CB in the NFL bites up on Michael Turner or Jason Snelling with 6 seconds left to go in that 2008 Bears game? You think any defense in the NFL is afraid of Brian Finneran running a reverse or catching a short seam/slant and taking it 20+ yards? They brought speed to our offense in terms of YAC, the middle of the field, and from a sideline to sideline standpoint. That is what opens up a defense and creates explosive plays, not Mularkey just telling Ryan to chuck it deep to Roddy White or trying to force Jenkins to be something he's not.

Ryan was better with pocket presence and awareness this previous year. Down the field he was better his rookie year. Ryan stepped up in the pocket and even ran successfully this year.

(04-03-2011 08:22 PM)Swift Is a Die Hard Wrote:  How has Ryan had more on his shoulders? Your probably answer with well Flacco didnt take over a team that was in the gutter but thats just a excuse imo Just cause Ravens have a better defense then us doesnt mean the Ravens dont count on Flacco as much as we do Ryan . Ryan has a legit top 3 wr and a future HOF TE ..Ravens brought in a stud wr in Boldin got a solid TE and good running game. Flacco and Ravens use Rice more in the offensive passing attack and dump downs but we use Snelling.

How many games can you actually say Ryan won strictly on his play alone Ravens game is probably only one that comes to mind when he out-dueled Flacco that game at home

Flacco stats 3622 yards /25 tds /10 ints 7.4 YA
Ryan stats 3705 yards /28 tds/9 ints 6.5 YA

Matt Ryan contract -6 years 72 million (34 guaranteed )
Joe Flacco - 5 years 30 million

Also you have pointed out that Flacco has lead his team to playoff wins while Ryan hasnt at this point

Ive talked to ravens fans that even thinks Matt Ryan have more on his shoulder and they like how he is more of a emotional leader.... Say what you want but with that D (that D has held up that team when Flacco has had bad playoff games) and Ray Lewis will always carry the load for that team as the leader until he retires.. Thats not Flacco's fault tho.

Do Flacco has a right to ask for more money.. Yea he does..... I feel like Matt Ryan... Flacco took a step forward.... The guy is a good up incoming QB.... If i was the Ravens would i give him a new contract right now... No... why should i... I can atleast get one more year out of him.

The Giants are the perfect example... They had Strahan and Osi... They drafted Tuck (a 1st round talent that slipped in the draft) ... The Giants had Tuck and Osi.... They draft Kiwi..... The Giants had Tuck,Osi, and Kiwi.... They then draft JPP... They get that pass rusher is a must.. They find a away to rotate their guys... Kiwi got hurt (dude was balling before the injury) ... He then gets hurt.... After the season there D-Line Coach Fewell said they missed Kiwi and Tuck had 11.5 sacks and Osi had 11.5 sacks and JPP had 4.5 sakcs... My point is... everybody who BVG,coach Smith, and Coach Hamilton want to get snaps will get their snaps.

Matt Ryan wouldnt be the leader on the Ravens as he is here. That is still Ray Lewis Locker room like you pointed out . As for Ravens D carrying Flacco in the playoffs that is def true in couple of games ..Flacco though has played in 5 playoff games and had 3 real solid performances , while 2 of Ryan games in playoffs have been bad to avg and it kind of contradicts your argument when you guys say Ryan has to have more on his shoulder yet HE HASNT SHOWN UP in both playoff games

I dont think Flacco is better then Ryan , but I also dont think Ryan is better then Flacco . If I had to choose I would take Flacco cause he has the better arm, better touch on deep ball and gets ball down field . The people who would take Ryan over Flacco I cant argue cause Ryan seems to have the intangibles and they want to go that route but from eye test Ill take Flacco

and then mind you stats are pretty similar and Ryan makes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more $$ then Flacco
