Would you take a chance on Jarvis Jones?

Would you take a chance on Jarvis Jones?
Just wondering how everyone here feels. I know he has spinal stenosis (I have had fusion surgery ETC, and been involved in extreme sports all my life)....I have that and Desicated disc disease, so while it is no joke, I really don't understand the huge concern.....Provided he maintains a strong core and where's his proper protective gear, I bet he could have a normal NFL career....and there would be signs long before it is an issue.

So once a top 5 pick...the rumblings are he may drop to the end of the first round or completely out of first round. (I personally think this is HIGHLY unlikely, just putting up what rumor mill I have been seeing is)

So if he is there at 30.....do you take him? I sure as hell would! With the rookie pay wage scale, it is a no loss situation and I know we could get at least 4 years from him if not a full career......just my 2 cents. I think some other team would take a chance before us....in fact it may be teams at the end of the draft creating all the buzz about what a risk he is.....who knows.

Just thought it was a fun topic!!

Go check his stats and maybe watch a couple of his highlight vids from this year and you'll realize that him not doing the combine will ultimately have zero negative impact.

He should be the #1 pick if KC was smart. His spinal stenosis stuff is way overblown. All the doctors at the combine cleared him. When he performs at the UGA pro-day and runs a 4.5x and goes through drills, nobody will care he didn't do anything at the combine. All 32 teams will be at UGA's pro-day.

He won't make it past the top 10.

dude could be in a wheel chair and I'd still take him at 30. If he can stay healthy he will be a game changer.

I have my back fused too, L5-S1 DDD Degenerative Disc disease. But Jarvis has spondylolisthesis which basically means his back bone is weaker then other peoples. That he could need back surgery in his life, he could not if he strengthens his back and stomach muscles, but its a gamble. He could be a awesome player for 5 years, or more, or he could be a player his first year he gets whacked good and has to get his back fused then hes out for good. Regardless its a gamble or a risk. I loved watching Jarvis Jones at UGA and if we went 3-4 or even in the 4-3 he would be awesome in it and hes got that speed like Kerney had. He just causes plays and fumbles. We just got to see if TD and Smitty if they would take that gamble. Angel

RE: Would you take a chance on Jarvis Jones?
Actually spondylolisthesis is Spinal Stenosis and often times it is noticed because of pain....i actually had a pole vaulting injury in high school where I was told I had spondylolisthesis and in addition I was missing several pieces of bones in my back. While it took me 7 years of chronic pain before it built to an unbearable level....i still did extreme sports until my late 30's.....I think as long as he is not complaining about pain...he will be fine...a strong core does help. Incidentally I had the same fusion as you and they went through my belly. I was walking a couple miles by the end of the week, and was bowling at 3.5 months.....mind you that is not tackling ETC....What i mean as long as he stays in shape and doesn't get hit by a bad angle...i think he will have a fine career....

Nope, we've already taken to many chances on defense. JA, Jerry, Edwards etc.

If we gamble again and lose we are in trouble. Take the most sure fire lowest risk pass rusher with our 1st rd pick.

It's not overblown, it's a condition that if aggravated could end his career early. It's a valid concern. I'd still take him in the top 10 with the new rookie pay scale. I'd be wary of it under the old system where he might have been the highest paid player at his position on whatever team drafted him.

RE: Would you take a chance on Jarvis Jones?
I suffer from spinal stenosis. It's a condition you pretty much have your whole life. It does get worse with age, and is a big contributing factor in the problems I have with my back and legs, stay in pain all the time and some days can barely walk.

of course I'm in my mid 50's. I was very active and athletic in my teens, 20's and 30's . I was not a college athlete though, never played high school ball. weighed a measly 125 lbs when I graduated high school. I did work my way into management at a company that provided gym memberships to management, and I even paid my own personal trainer for a few years to build up.

thoughout my 20's and 30's, we were always on the go, playing softball, tennis, golfing. hiking fishing hunting camping, etc etc.....

I said all that to say this. At this point in his life, unless he's already started having problems with 'bird beaks' growing on his spine (as one of my doctors described my condition) then he should be good to go. I'd draft him in a hearbeat if he passes his physicals

Chew on THAT, Petunia!
