If "impact hits" or "devastating hits" are legislated out of the NFL, then why would any team draft or play a free safety or a strong safety in the NFL.

The whole purpose of the safety position is to make impact hits and to frighten wide receivers into not catching the football when they come accross the middle of the field.

Without the safety being able to play the role of "enforcer", then their talents are no longer needed. Almost by definition, safeties cannot cover the WRs or TEs like a cornerback can. If those hits are legislated out of the NFL, then I think NFL GMs would not want the skill set of a safety.

So NFL defenses would replace the two safeties with two corners and the back half of the defense/secondary would have four cornerbacks.

Think about it - that is what would happen logically......uggh!Dodgy

Not really - Free safeties are the last line of defense for deep routes and busted running plays - strong safeties back up the linebackers on running plays and assist in the coverage of running backs and tight ends

There would still be a need

C/S Same Ol, and if they really were thinking like that, they would move hard hitting safeties to LB.

"co-sign".

and i still think you need safeties for run defense. if you had 4 corners, theres no way you could play any run D. imagine turner meeting a corner in the hole every play instead of a safety.

I disagree.....I think you would see 4 corners - 2 would be the "pure cover corners" and then you would have two other corners that were maybe slightly bigger that were decent tacklers - but not enforcers. I think you would see the size/strength go down for the safeties - IMHO.
