RE: Why we should root for GB
I want the Steelers to win the Superbowl because I don't want to hear the " OH RODGERS IS SO INVINCIBLE THAT EVERY PICK HE THROWS JUST EXPLAINS HOW ELITE HE IS" nut hugging Brees like love fest crap that Aaron Rodgers would get if he was to win.

Let me put it in this context, Sanchez has Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Jerricho Cotchery, LT and Dustin Keller. Even with all those weapons, he only posted a 54.8% completion rate. He also has the (arguably) best OL in football with (arguably) the best Defense in football. If the Jets had a competent QB who could play 4 quarters of football, they would win it all. |

You didn't even mentioned the WR's dropping the balls and the bad playcalling? Mark Sanchez has stepped his game up this year in the playoffs. Did you not see the Jets defense missing tackles left and right and the Jets getting dumb penalties? Mark Sanchez outplayed Ben Roethlisberger (sp) last night. The 1st half was the Jets undoing, you can't go down 24-0. I know that most people don't like Mark Sanchez or the Jets for whatever reason but come on dude. He wasn't the reason why they lost this game. But if that's what you want to believe then so be it.

Mark Sanchez outplayed Ben Roethlisberger (sp) last night. The 1st half was the Jets undoing, you can't go down 24-0. I don't think the hype that Sanchez gets is warranted, I think that somewhat irks fans on this board, as sometimes it seems he gets more respect than Matt does and being very honest he has not performed with the consistency Matt has. But that is due to media market he plays in and the nature of the team as well. He is a decent player but right now for me he is still not cutting it up enough to warrant the hysteria. His INT's need to come down, you can't have a QB doing that. But he is coming along. EDIT: I just checked and in 2 seasons he has thrown 33 INT's and 29 TD's having started all but 1 game Matt has thrown in 3 seasons 34INT's and 66TD's having started 46 contests I know Sanchez has certainly had more post season favour than Matt, but he has not done it alone. You look at these things and although I think you cannot fully evaluate someone by statistics alone, you see a person who needs to start putting in some real work, especially for the price he was paid. I think another mediocre year from him and you seriously have to look at what you have as supposed to what you want from the QB. The game is not being put in his hands and his hands alone just yet, and he seems not to be as careful with it as you would like your QB to be. He isn't going to be able to develop unless he starts doing those basic things better and bringing those turnover numbers down. All of this being said, I think Matt was a more advanced QB than Sanchez coming out. I think the draft elevated where Sanchez was picked based on demand. So in that respect you'd hope that the Jets organisation would be aware that they are going to need to give him more development time as his learning curve is definitely proving to be steeper than where he was selected. This is a criticism I also have regarding the Matt Stafford situation although part of the complication there is the FO is not protecting their investment, if they don't get a decent OL in to sure up his protection he is going to go down again. I feel as though Josh Freeman is the only QB in that draft group who has shown the caliber and consistency one may expect first round QB's in this era, having watched him the season before he was drafted I felt the success he personally has had in his development was certain. |

Matt's regular season record speaks for itself so there's no need for any fan to get upset over people thinking Sanchez is better. Hell sometimes I don't think the hype over Matt Ryan is warranted but you don't see me moaning and complaining about it. People love to scream how Matt Ryan is a 3rd year qb, well guess what? Mark Sanchez is a 2nd year QB. Both of them are right on track with where they should be development wise. Mark Sanchez rose it when it mattered but they just didn't get it done. He's hardly the reason that they lost yesterday.

Sorry I dont think I made it clear in my post that I am not blaming Sanchez for the loss yesterday. I can also accept comparing Matt and Mark is not fair, just like how comparing Matt to Rogers is not fair, you are right they are at different stages. I will say this however at the end of year 2 Matt had missed time had a "Sophmore Slump", and still not thrown more INT's than TD's, and you could see that he was a player that it was definitely coming together for. What concerns me about Sanchez isn't the INT's TD ratio, as as I have said it doesn't really tell a fair story. His play is very erratic, going into year 3 in his development that needs to settle down. He is a player far better supported by the talent level of his team mates in his unit and on defense than both veteran and younger QB's for some reason I just feel like for the Jets fortunes to get better it really is down to Sanchez for the lion share of that turn around. |
