I'm really starting to belive that, every win I've thought well NOW it will come, it hasn't and it won't, maybe when we win the SB ?

Lets be honest if we win a close Super Bowl with a close call for us no matter how many went against us it would be a fluke win in media eyes. The only way the falcons get the respect that most fans want is to win a Super Bowl by blow out. Me personally I don't care if the media gives respect as long we are winning.

I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan (dad's from there and he raised me that way) and we won the World Series with an 83-78 regular season record. If you remember the Tigers basically gave us the World Series commiting all those errors. After we won people said that the 2006 team was the worst team to ever win a World Series. I'll take it. The point is we won the damn thing!!

Reminds me of a quote from the Pirates of the Carribean movie....

Norrington: "You are without doubt the worst pirate I've ever heard of."
Jack Sparrow: "But ...you HAVE heard of me"

Ann Atlanta Falcons fan should understand better than anyone why the media still doubts us. This is the first time in our history that we have a year in and year out winning team on the field. We as fans are just starting to get used to winning consistently. It's going to take the outside world a little longer to accept that the Falcons are here to stay.

RE: Why does no one believe in the Atlanta Falcons?
ok all atlanta sports fans, listen up.

we're here again in another thread about 'we get no respect from the media'.

WHO CARES! we're winning. I said WE ARE WINNING!! 3, count them THREE winning seasons in a row! two of which, ( i know we haven't clinched the playoffs yet, but really do you doubt we'll be there?) we get to the playoffs. How does this season end? well of course we don't know that. I have to admit that while I thought early on that we would get to the playoffs, just not very far in, I now think we'll go all the way to the superbowl, with a GREAT chance to win it all. Will this get us the respect that some of the fans so desperately desire? NO IT WON'T!

It was said, 'beat the Saints at their house, people will respect us', did that happen? NOPE! then it was, 'if we beat the Ravens, surely THAT will make people respect us' did THAT happen either? NOPE, then it was, 'beat Green Bay, the team picked by most at the beginning of the season to be the NFC rep in the superbowl, and SURELY THAT WILL MEAN PEOPLE WILL RESPECT US' did it happen after we handed them their hats? NOPE IT DIDN'T.

in the midst of that was, 'if we beat the Rams who don't lose at home, in their house, that will shush the nay sayers' NOPE IT DIDN'T

my point is, if you followed the Braves at all (why I started out with Atlanta Sports Fans) you know that even after going worst to first and playing in the World Series, and following that season with Division Winning teams for a total of 14 IN A ROW, with multiple World Series appearances and 1 world title, the Braves really NEVER got any respect for being a good baseball team. When they finally didn't win the division in the 15th year, there were those sports casters who said, 'see, i knew they would fall'
It is because we are in the SOUTH, we are ATLANTA. no one will EVER give the kind of love and respect that some fans want/need.

I say again, WHO CARES! WE ARE WINNING, and it's GREAT to be a FALCONS FAN

as a sidenote: same really applies to the saints, they're in the south too

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Why does no one believe in the Atlanta Falcons?
I'm an Atlanta sports fan, Falcons, Braves, Hawks, Thrashers, and dang I miss watching the Georgia Force football games.

There's always going to be people out there who just feel left out and want to speak ill of others teams no matter how good the team you like are doing. Sad, but true.

I look forward to hearing the negative just as much as the positive opinions for one reason only : "If the Falcons aren't winning, they ain't saying nothing".

I don't care, I'll listen to the whiners moan all the way to a super bowl win!

GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Lots of folks out there look at 2008 as a fluke, confirmed (in their minds) by a non-playoff season in 2009. They're wrong, of course, because they don't know what underlies those seasons. 2010 could be the year that leads to national notoriety, but I honestly think it will take a Super Bowl appearance to break that glass ceiling.

For this reason, Mike Smith will go down as the greatest Falcons coach ever.

RE: Why does no one believe in the Atlanta Falcons?
The biggest issue I have with our disrespect is this:
2008: 11-5, loss in the first round. Team B- started 8-3, choked and finished 9-7, out of the playoffs.

2009: 9-7, miss playoffs. Team B- 9-7, including a loss to us that would have kept them out of the playoffs if we were in the same conference, lose the AFC Championship Game

2010(before last weekend): 9-2, best record in the NFC, with wins over multiple winning teams. Team B- 9-2, best record in the AFC, with one win over a winning team.

Team B, of course is the New JERSEY Jets. Looking at all of that on paper, who should have been getting more respect and recognition? While most legit Power Rankings had us ranked higher, the majority of analysts did not. There is a story every week about are the Falcons real, yet never once did they question the Jets. They continuously brought up our lack of a "big" win(which is complete shit) yet never once mentioned the Jets lack of wins over anyone except the Patriots at home, which happened the same week we beat the CHAMPS on the road. You know when the first time they mentioned that was? During the MNF game as the Jets were getting sodomized 45-3.

The Jets have won the same number of superbowls and been to the CCG(I think) the same number of times as we have over the past 40 years. 0 and 2 respectively. So they have as little "history" of success as we do. But like Chazmataz said, because we are ATLANTA and they claim a city and state they don't even play in, they will recieve constant media fellatio and we get nothing but unwarranted questioning. Fuck the media and its bullshit bias.

Falcons are the best team in the NFL, the Hawks are a championship contender in the NBA, the Braves should be a top 5 team in the MLB next season, and I think the Thrashers are good this year too haha
