RE: Why did we lose?
I've finding it amazing how many members over on AFMB are blaming the offensive woes on the Steelers defense, even saying that the Steelers defense is the best in the league...
lol...I mean really!? Better than the Jets or Ravens? I think not! First our offensive struggles were..."It's just pre-season" and now they are an exgerated "Steelers have the best defense in the league"! I mean what will it take to for some to see that the harsh reality is that we have offensive issues, somethings are just not quite there. There is nothing wrong with be optimistic, but being blind and blissfully unaware to the reality surrounding you is absurd. Dome Section 232! |

Roddy can't do it alone, neither can Gonzo....Matt missed many other open receivers..... ok i saw the video where Coach said that last play, there was an open gap because 2 people went to the same gap meaning someone missed filling the gap that mendenhall went through. don't know who it was, he didn't say of course. would Babs playing prevented that? we'll never know, I DO know i'm glad he'll be back next week. so who gets cut to make room for him? also i agree with your comment about 9 seconds (thinkin it was 11 tho) and i wondered the same thing. I had to be at work at 4, but had made an excuse to go out to my truck to check the game and it was right at the time reed missed the FG, and i immediately thought about chicago in the dome, only to have to trudge back in cause they didn't even TRY, and weren't they on the 30 or so?? Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Why did we lose?
Adding to our offensive complaints I can't remember any screens thrown yesterday... I would review the game again but I was so ticked off at the loss I deleted the DVR recording?

It's an ongoing deficiency. |

RE: Why did we lose?
As someone who has only been able to see the Mendenhall run, and thats it from the game, can someone please fill me in on the following details:
1. Are we still playing everything "underneath" on offense? I.E. shallow routes and not stretching of the field.. 2. Is our offense still easy to I.D. based on personnel packages? Pretty bad when even the fans know what play is coming... 3. Are we still playing the candyass brand of defense where the CB lines up 10 yards off the ball?

Yes, for the most part. Something amazing happened Sunday. The Falcons threw 44 passes, 23 of which were directed at Roddy White, without throwing any fly patters, or deep posts, or deep corners, or screen passes, or deep crosses, or shallow crosses. Everything was a deep comeback, deep out, or hook, or dump off to the running backs. The lack of diversity in the passing game is startling. 2. I didn't study that aspect as closely watching the game live, but with us running the same plays over and over again, I don't imagine that the personnel groupings mattered much to the Steelers. 3. Yes, sort of, but they got away with it, because Dixon, while completing a good percentage of his passes, made a number of really bad throws in crucial situations. |

Our offense as of late with its lack of creativity even makes the Carolina Panthers offense look exotic. Defensively, I'm a firm believer that you'll never be elite unless you are willing to line your CB's up on the LOS and challenge the offense at the point of attack. ALL the great defenses do this and I think it has more to do with scheme than personnel.

RE: Why did we lose?
It's got to be hard to pass efficiently when all your receivers are running are comebacks and hooks. I said last week on AFMB that we run way to many curls/hooks/comebacks.
and yes Peyton, that is the funniest part. haha Dome Section 232! |
