I think the more pertinent question is, "Is a QB coach really that significant a factor in a veteran's success at this level?"

Was Leo Mazzone a significant factor for the Braves as a pitching coach back when we had the best rotation in baseball? I know it's 2 completely different situations, but I would say yes, a QB coach can help a player be that much better. When the guy has 100 starts under his belt, probably not. At this point, I still think Ryan can learn. Mostly though, I think the dude needs to work on standing straight up and firing that ball when he throws it deep. If Musgrave has worked with Matt to get that corrected, the results aren't really showing, so maybe somebody else will have some more effective coaching techniques to make an impact on that. |

No, having three HOF pitchers in that rotation was the significant factor there. On a related note, Terry Pendleton wasn't the reason that Jeff Francouer wouldn't stop swinging at pitches three feet outside the strike zone. I've just always held the belief that a position coach at the professional level is more of a resource than a teacher. |

That's what I'm saying, you don't believe that Leo played a part in them becoming HOFers? Maddux was already great in Chicago, but he got even greater when he came here. Leo had NOTHING to do with that? Again, it's comparing apples to oranges, but if we could have an elite QB coach come in, I think we would see an improvement in Matt. It certainly wouldn't hurt.
