Who was worse? Saints or Falcons? - Pat still likes us
By Pat Yasinskas
With all the NFC South teams done playing games, let’s make one up for ourselves.

It’s real easy. Which playoff loss was worse, Atlanta’s loss to Green Bay on Saturday or New Orleans’ loss to Seattle the week before?

I’ll lay out a brief case for each and then I’ll cast my vote. After that, I want you to cast your votes and debate it out in the comments section below.

New Orleans’ 41-36 loss to Seattle: At least this game was close and you can always say that a road trip to Seattle and dealing with the “12th man’’ make things more difficult than they should be. But the sad part here is the defending world champions suddenly turned into the defenseless world champions. They gave up 41 points to a team that was 7-9 in the regular season.

Atlanta’s 48-21 loss to Green Bay: The Falcons were defenseless, too. So much for all the talk about how the arrivals of rookie linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and free-agent cornerback Dunta Robinson had made this defense solid. The Falcons were the No. 1 seed in the NFC and they got torn up at home by the No. 6 seed.

My vote: Both losses were extremely embarrassing. But I’m giving my vote for worst loss to the Saints in a close call. This really could go either way. But I’m going with New Orleans because at least the Falcons lost to a good team.

You know, with a little extra time to think this over, I still say the Saints loss was worse. Let's look at the opponents head to head

Offensive Rank
Packers: 9th
Seahawks: 28th

Offensive Scoring
Packers: 10th
Seahawks: 23rd

Defensive Rank
Packers: 5th
Seahawks: 27th

Defensive Scoring
Packers: 2nd
Seahawks: 25th

TO Differential
Packers: 4th
Seahawks: 27th

In every category that matters, not only are the Packers better, they are ranked in the top 10. The Packers came in hot and had a game plan that worked against the Falcons.

The Seahawks were lucky to win 7 games, yet the Saints gave up more points, 41, than the Seahawks had scored all season. Their previous high was 36 points againts Arizona. The Saints got beat by a horrible team, the Falcons got blasted by (I hate to admit this) a much better team.

Giving up 41 points to Seattle is laughable. At least GB has a ton of fire power on their offense.

adding to this the fact that GB was 'the team' picked by most before the season to go all the way. not that this matters a lot,

BUT as said, they have a LOT of firepower, they were healthy, fighting and working through several key injuries to even make it to the playoffs, and are on a ROLL of serious momentum. not enough is said about momentum.

i agree, not being a homer here, but them losing to a 7-9 team is much worse than us losing to the team that's probably gonna win it all

Chew on THAT, Petunia!
