Who said the NFL was changing?
There was much discussion that started in the 2007 year that revolved around the NFL becoming a QB league. This year that talked went sky high with the great QB play. While QB play is obivously much much better than previous years, defense still rules this league.

For all the scoring, QB ratings, completion percentages, etc. the Super Bowl consists of the top 2 scoring defenses in the league.

Defense wins championships and regardless of the QB play or rule changes this will always be the case.

In 2007, the team with the most sacks in the NFL that year beat the team with the most points scored ever.

In 2008, the team with the #1 defense in the league beat the team with the #4 offense in the league.

In 2009, both teams had great offenses and middle of the pack defenses. But the team with the defensive TD won this matchup

In 2010, both teams have great defenses, but GB has the better offense. It's hard to pick against the Steelers. We shall see if it's some sort of defensive effort is the reason for either side winning.

RE: Who said the NFL was changing?
I think balance is important. While the NFL may or may not be changing, but a terrible defense won't get a team to the Superbowl. It's hard to have a offense or defense dominate in every game, and some games require one or the other to pull out the win.

Of course balance will get you where you need to be, but if I were picking one to fix first then it would be defense.

I think for the falcons both sides need some sort of tweaking. I would go tweak defense before I tweak offense. These two teams have had consistent defenses throughout the season. Look at GB going from his much they put up against us to scoring only a lil against chicago.

Its a lot easier to be consistent on defense than on offense.

the old addage is offense sells tickets, defense wins championships. I'm with you, as much as our offense didn't do much in the playoffs, it was definitely the defense (or lack thereof) that was the shambles of this game.

i want our focus this year to be mostly defense again, but we definitely need some explosiveness on offense

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

A good QB and a strong defense is what you need. Why'd you leave off 06?
