Who are the Boom or Bust player in 2011 draft
This staff seems to do a good job of finding guys that have a very high floor and maybe more low ceiling players. Solid players that every team needs. We are missing on the high ceiling low floor guys. I thought Sidbury and Spencer Adkins were these types of guys and they still could be. I think as we look to get more explosive as a team that we are going to have to start taking longer looks at the Carlos Dunlaps, Desean Jacksons, and players that have that boom or bust potential.
Here are a couple DeAndre Brown NFLP Profile Quote:A massive, king-sized wideout with a tall, long frame. Possesses a lean set of legs and decent girth through his upper body, but has the kind of frame to continue to mature physically. Displays an impressive first step off the line for a guy his size. Generates a good initial burst, gets into his routes quickly and has an explosive element to his game, especially for a guy his size. Picks up speed as he goes and the further down the field he gets the tougher cover he can be. Displays good awareness and coordination when asked to track the football over his outside shoulder and adjusts cleanly to the throw. However, lacks ideal ball skills, too often will let the ball get into his frame, will lose concentration and puts too many throws on the ground. Also, doesn't seem to be a big fan of contact, will look for the safety, take his eyes off the ball and again not make a play on the throw. Greg Romeus NFLP Profile Quote:A good-looking pass rusher who has the kind of length to consistently disengage from blocks on contact and close on the football. Is only a decent bender, but does display some natural flexibility to coil up into his stance and fire off the football. However, he has a tendency to pop upright off the snap and consistently allows his pad level to get too high into contact. Showcases some natural power on his bull rush and uses his long arms well to get into blockers quickly and can deliver a real jolt on contact. But, because of his inability to play with routine leverage, opposing linemen can reset their feet and anchor after his initial jolt. Possesses violent hands and is really sudden when changing directions on his pass rush, as he loves to work his inside chop in order to disengage and close back inside. Displays a good overall first step and can get into opposing tackles quickly, but isn't going to win at the next level with his speed rush alone, as he struggles to drop his pad level when flattening out around the corner and can be easily pushed past the pocket. Also, has a motor that will tire from time to time. Who do you think are the Boom or Bust guys in this draft. ![]()

RE: Who are the Boom or Bust player in 2011 draft
Said this earlier, Ras I Dowling from UVA will be a bust. Potentially a second round pick, maybe moving into the first depending on his workout. Great measurables for a corner at 6-2. He has consistantly been abused in every big situtation I watched him in at UVA. Baring some serious coaching up, we have to stay away from this kid imo.

To the OP, from the initial videos they don't show me anything giving me that Wow factor. Obviously they are highlights, but still. Out of the two you provided I'd say Romeus seems like he'd do "okay" in the league. The WR from the scouting notes seems like a player we'd not even consider. Health issues, character flaws, work ethics....no thank you.

RE: Who are the Boom or Bust player in 2011 draft
Cam Newton has so much boom potential I think it would be crazy to pass on him if he's still there at the end of the 2nd round, even though we are set at QB. Look at the situation Philly is in. That's a problem every team would love to have.

RE: Who are the Boom or Bust player in 2011 draft
I think Jake Locker is the boom or bust guy who I feel strongly will be a bust.

they have newton going at ten to the skins on a lot of mocks. Not sure what to think about him. Locker on the other hand I feel could fall way down by the time the draft actually gets to us.

We seem to be leaning away from guys with character concerns but guys with his size that are quick off the line and can gain seperation can really produce in this league. He is not a first round guy but could boom like Colston in mid to late rounds. With Romeus you are going off could he reach the potential he had coming off last season. Most last year had he Heyward and Clayborn duking it out for who would be the best DE in this draft. The question is if he can come off the injury and reach that level and go beyond. ![]()

He reminds me of David Carr after he'd already been in the NFL for a few years and had lost all of his confidence, combined with Alex Smith's mobility. If Alex Smith were drunk and stubbed his toe, that is. I've never understood the Locker hype. They wanted so desperately to find another Tebow and anointed Locker as that without him deserving it. Locker will be a straight up bust. Newton and Fairley are the biggest Boom or Bust prospects. Newton has all world talent, but will his game translate to the NFL better than Young's? Only time will tell. Fairley is a dominant force; however, he takes off too many plays. |

RE: Who are the Boom or Bust player in 2011 draft
I saw somewhere where Locker was compared to Jake Plummer. Athletic able to scramble but horrible decision making. This makes me think that the Redskins may take a shot at him with Shanahan at the helm. I have not heard people questioning his effort much. Matts decision making was questioned by some. It was dismissed as him trying to fit balls into small windows with sub par receiver talent at BC. Most Dorsey lovers were quick to throw up his TD-INT ratio. If he is a hard worker I cannot see him failing with his talent and the right tutelage. Andy Reid could make the kid a monster.
