While we're talking offseason needs
This article is impossible to ignore.

Jets unlikely to keep Drew Coleman, Antonio Cromartie, Brodney Pool, Eric Smith in same secondary

BY Ebenezer Samuel
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Quote:The one unit that played up to its capabilities throughout the AFC championship loss to the Steelers likely has played its last game together.

The Jets' secondary held Ben Roethlisberger to 133 passing yards on Sunday and limited explosive wideout Mike Wallace to six yards. But with Darrelle Revis the only key contributor still under contract, it's unlikely that the unit will return intact next season.

"This is the most talented secondary I've been around, from top to bottom," nickel corner Drew Coleman said Monday. "But it's hard to say if we'll be back together next year."

The Jets roster is rife with uncertainty, and no position illustrates that more than the secondary, which led the league's sixth-ranked passing defense. Coleman, Antonio Cromartie and safeties Brodney Pool and Eric Smith are all headed for free agency. All expressed a desire to return Monday, especially Pool.

The first-year Jet stressed the importance of communication in a secondary, and said that this current group has learned to play together.

"The secondary has to be the closest group on a defense," he said. "The longer you have a group of guys together, the better chance you stand on the field. And we grew together this year."

The secondary had its moments early in the season, as Revis worked his way back into form after a lengthy holdout and Coleman gradually passed rookie Kyle Wilson on the depth chart. But it was at its best in the last two rounds of the playoffs, first frustrating the Patriots' Tom Brady and then limiting Roethlisberger to a 35.5 quarterback rating.

If it somehow stays together, Coleman said, the secondary could be even better in 2011.

"The sky's the limit for us," he said. "We work well together."

Still, they all recognize that is not likely. The Jets invested a first-round pick in the little-used Wilson. And the uncertainty surrounding the league's collective bargaining agreement also slows things down. Pool said he has not sure what will happen until a new CBA is in place, something that Cromartie seconded.

"That's part of the business," Cromartie said. "You can't keep everybody."

RE: While we're talking offseason needs
Outside Revis or Holmes there is not one Jet I would want .

Sanchez did show me something in 2nd half but he is no better or worse then our QB

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

I hope you are wrong about that! Ryan appears to be several cuts
above Sanchez when I look at him. I couldn't be more encouraged
by Matt Ryan.

Lad, first off, welcome to the site. Always nice to see fresh blood here. Secondly, please do not engage Swifty in discussions with Matt Ryan. It is a long drawn out process and Swifty is not sold on Matt Ryan yet and forces others to spend money that is not needed to prove him wrong Tongue Big Grin

this post says sooooo much...

Nick Mangold is the best center in the NFL, no contest. D'Brickashaw Ferguson is a top 5-10 offensive tackle, both were drafted within the past 5 years. Dustin Keller's a young tight end who is one of the best receiving TE's in the league, and David Harris is only 27 and one of the most underrated tackling LB's in football. I'm dumbfounded on you saying Revis and Holmes are the only 2 Jets you would take.

Me too, but I would pass on Cromartie.

Cromartie, as talented a cover corner as he may be, would never be welcome in Atlanta considered his character and more importantly, lack of desire to help in the run game.

RE: While we're talking offseason needs
While were talking I went to Walter Football to look at some off-season needs and found this...

http://walterfootball.com/offseason2011atl.php

Season Summary:
The Falcons had a great regular season, earning a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Unfortunately, they were exposed by the Packers as a bit of a farce, as Green Bay easily dispatched Atlanta, 48-21. The Falcons are a good team, but they weren't ready to win the Super Bowl just yet. They have a few things they need to fix.

Offseason Moves:

Offseason Needs:
Two Wide Receivers: Michael Jenkins and Harry Douglas can't make plays. The Falcons desperately need to upgrade the receiver position. They may reach for Jonathan Baldwin or Torrey Smith with the 27th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Left Tackle: Sam Baker really struggled as Matt Ryan's blind-side protector this year. He belongs at right tackle, so Atlanta may use its first-round pick on someone like Anthony Castonzo or Derek Sherrod.

Two Guards: Both starting guards - Justin Blalock and Harvey Dahl - are free agents this offseason. The Falcons must keep their starting front line intact.

Strong Safety: William Moore sucked this year. He was torched in the playoff loss to Green Bay. An upgrade is desperately needed. WTF??

Strongside Linebacker: If Atlanta doesn't retain Stephen Nicholas, it'll need a new strongside linebacker.

Nickel Cornerback: Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson are set as starters, but the Falcons can't have an aging Brian Williams or pedestrian Christopher Owens manning the nickel position again next season.

Tight End: Tony Gonzalez is coming back for one more year, but he's done. It's painful to watch him play. Atlanta should look for a young tight end in the middle of April's draft as a possible successor.

Defensive End: John Abraham is coming off a 13-sack campaign, but he'll be a 33-year-old entering his contract season in 2011. How much more does he have left in the tank?

RE: While we're talking offseason needs
WalterFootball is the definition of somebody who doesn't know the game of football tricking many people into thinking that he does. His mock drafts consists of no studying on his part, but instead rankings from nfldraftscout.com. He doesn't know 90 percent of the players he criticizes, and relies solely on NFL.com to judge a player's talent. A complete tool that shouldn't be allowed to access a computer in my opinion.
