When Mike Nolan's Defense Has 2 Weeks To Prepare
Got curious thinking about our defense and preparation so I got to digging and came up with this stuff.....
DC in Denver in 2009, DC in Miami 2010 and 2011, DC in Atlanta 2012 In his 4 years as the DC for those 3 teams Nolan defense's have accomplished this coming off a BYE and having 2 weeks of preparation: - No QB has passed for multiple TD's in any game - QB's are averaging 220 yards passing with 2 QB's throwing for less than 200 yards (1 QB threw for 201 yards) and 1 QB going over 300 yards - No RB has rushed for multiple TD's in any game - No RB has gone for over 100 yards rushing in any game - Only 1 WR has posted a game of over 100 yards receiving - No team has scored more than 2 offensive TD's in any given game - Every team has averaged less than 4.0 YPC - His defense has given up an average of just over 19 PPG in those contests (exactly what this defense is averaging which is top 5 caliber) The numbers don't lie here and this is the reason I'm so confident the Falcons get over the playoff hump this season. Nolan and his scheming when given 2 weeks to prepare produce results, period. Now the only key is transferring that to the playoffs. It'll be the offense's job to keep up come playoff time and if they can the sky is the limit and the Lombardi trophy will be without a doubt within our grasp.

Good stuff. I keep reminding myself to undo 4 years of VanGorder conditioning.

RE: When Mike Nolan's Defense Has 2 Weeks To Prepare
Some great research....only flaw you actually said is that it applies to regular season. In the Playoffs we won't know who we might face until after the weekend....so the real prep can start until after we know....Nolan can anticipate and he can try to fix issues that he think apply to every team we face (such as our tackling - which has been better the last couple of weeks especially) but he can't do the real stuff until we know for sure.
GB makes me a bit nervous, as do the Giants (but either team has days where they come in flat) Bears I am not too worried as their O-line is in disarray....their defense is good, when our Offense clicks it is way better SF doesn't scare me too much....they too are an up/down team.... Seattle could get hot (this is my pick for the 6th spot) - would love to see a GB-SEA match up again....that would be fun...... Should be interesting. I see GB getting the #2 seed provided they beat the Bears again.... SF #3 East Winner #4 GB or Bears #5 (loser of their next match up) Seattle So SEA/SF play week 16 and will likely meet again week 18 (wildcard weekend) which would match the Bear/GB with East Winner (NYG/WASH/DAL) I think NYG but wash and Dal have lighter schedule if WAS beats NYG tonight Who will we play first? It will either be SEA or CHIC/GB (loser of their next Matchup) - I would love for it to be Seattle....since they have had a harder time on the road this year....it would be extra cool if their CBs got suspended right after their first playoff win....lol My gut feel is the Bears....then the winner of SF/GB I guess we will see how my predictions go.... |

I wonder...........so we've lost our last 3 PO games.so does this mean there's a chance that whomever we play is going to come in thinking, "it's the Falcons, they can't win in the playoffs" and be flat? Everyone seems to think that just because we've lost the last three times, we'll never EVER win one again |

I'm not scared of the Packers. People seem forget the Falcons beat the Packers 20-17 in the regular season in 2010 and Ryan was 24/28 passing in that game.

The Packers are not that good this year. They are a below average team with a great QB. You should be able to handle them in your "house" with little problem. Saints Fan Since 1967

Yep. The Packers OL is quite possibly the worst in the NFL and the Falcons pass rush has gotten better the last few games. Kroy Biermann has really stepped it up to give Abraham some help on the otherside. ![]()

I actually want the packers. Maybe the giants too if we can. Lets call it "the redemption tour" then we can play the Texans in the Super Bowl and be done with it. But seriously I don't care who. Just want to win. |

I've said this 100 times but the one team I don't want to face is one no one is mentioning, THE SEAHAWKS! I don't care about any other team.

except I think the Seahawks will be without both of their starting CBs.....honestly I think Hawley had the right idea..accept the suspension and return before the playoffs....
The Seahawks DBs appeal hearing is on 13 or 14 DEC |
