If the Falcons lose then all it means is that the Packers were the better team that day and we fell short of our goal.. Disappointing as hell? Yes! End of the world? Nope.

Exactly.

Though I'd feel better about your analysis if you followed the well-stated trend of using the word "horseshit" Tongue

In the first game, Atlanta's WRs had 9 catches for 82 yards.

The Green Bay WRs had 19 catches for 290 yards and a TD, against a secondary that everyone in Atlanta seems to agree is the best the Falcons have had in well over a decade.

And we played terrible on Offense. What's the point? Ryan was a dink and dunk guy at the time. Also, our pre-season was terrible and we didn't find out how to move the ball until week 2.

I'm talking about a game that happened 6 weeks ago, not in the preseason. The first game against the Packers.

I don't think the Falcons were terrible on offense.

The Falcons scored 2 TDs and 2 FGs, which might not sound very good, until you consider this.

The Falcons only had 8 possessions, an 12 is the normal amount in an NFL game.

The 20 points the Falcons scored against he Pack is the most they have given up to any team in the last 10 games with the exception of the Patriots.

RE: Welcome to Atlanta - Green Bay
So, here's what I have gathered from skimming through this thread...

Despite the fact that the Packers own the largest point differential in the NFC - second in the entire league behind only the Pats - we should win this game easily.

If the game comes down to a last second field goal and we win, then we are an elite franchise. If the game comes down to a last second field goal and we lose, then it is time to seriously question the direction this franchise has taken.

Apparently, each team in the NFL is allowed to be the #1 seed in the playoffs only once in their history, and only teams that win the #1 seed go on to the Super Bowl. Therefore, we must win this week or we will never be in a postiton to reach the big game again.

In order to move into that upper class of QBs, Matt Ryan needs to prove he can win on a Saturday evening while wearing blue underpants. Or something.

Always an education, gentlemen.

hey man, why are you bringing me into this? I would like no association please! thank you very much. I will admit to being a crazy person on game days, but during the rest of the week I am sane and somewhat logical.

Exactly. I don't get it, and somehow, I'm glad I don't.

RE: Welcome to Atlanta - Green Bay
A loss is unacceptable. I hear fans say that a lot. But what does that exactly mean? Ok, you don't accept the loss, and that means...? To not accept something implies some sort of accountability but we as fans really have none unless we are going to throw a major tantrum stop going to games, stop supporting the team etc.... Without the required accountability the concept of a fan not accepting a loss doesn't make a lot of sense to me?

Someone earlier said, "I hope the coaching staff sees it like I do", as opposed to the "I'm just happy to be here crowd".

That's exactly how the staff should see it and I'm sure they do. This makes perfect sense because if they deem something to be an unacceptable loss they can take actions to address the situation.

We as fans can... can what? The only thing I can think of is that this is how each fan sets his own standard for happiness in enjoying an otherwise uncontrollable situation.

I know that if my realistic goal for the team was to win the Super Bowl and they didn't I would probably be unhappy about things and probably, over time, end up with a generally negative outlook.

Fortunately for me, my goals are much more in tune with reality. I understand that winning the Super Bowl is difficult, even in the best of circumstances. Sometimes there is simply a better team in the way that year. There are an infinite number of things that can go wrong.

All I can realistically ask is that we build a team that is capable of getting there and winning and that we field such a team most of the time. To me it looks like, after 45 years of waiting, we finally have the folks in place to make that happen.

Honestly, with our past and as many times as I've had hopes dashed I find it very difficult to call anything we are doing right now a failure.

I'm hoping our next loss will be when we are something like 9-1 next season. Am I going to be upset if we lose Saturday night? Hell yeah, I'll be pissed and in a bad mood for a couple of days I'm sure, but as the loss fades I know I'll have a positive outlook about where we are headed and excited for the next season. I sure as hell am not going to be wallowing in an offseason of misery focusing only on our most recent loss, but I'm sure if we don't win the Super Bowl there will be those that do.

In the end, I know that as a fan I must accept every loss, regardless of how I feel about it, because simply there is nothing more that I can do about it, I can either waste time and energy dwelling on it or I can move on and look forward. The latter is much more fun.

I always set my personal expectations before each season and stick to them. Makes it easier for me not to get carried away with emotion. So far these last 3 years all the goals have been met. So yeah, I'm happy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, after enduring many seasons of losing and stupidity, it becomes pretty easy to recognize when it's time to enjoy the ride. This is one of those times.

Your post made every other one in this thread appear irrelevant and infantile.

Rock on j-man.
