To not accept something implies some sort of accountability but we as fans really have none unless we are going to throw a major tantrum stop going to games, stop supporting the team etc.... Without the required accountability the concept of a fan not accepting a loss doesn't make a lot of sense to me?

Someone earlier said, "I hope the coaching staff sees it like I do", as opposed to the "I'm just happy to be here crowd".

That's exactly how the staff should see it and I'm sure they do. This makes perfect sense because if they deem something to be an unacceptable loss they can take actions to address the situation.

We as fans can... can what? The only thing I can think of is that this is how each fan sets his own standard for happiness in enjoying an otherwise uncontrollable situation.

I know that if my realistic goal for the team was to win the Super Bowl and they didn't I would probably be unhappy about things and probably, over time, end up with a generally negative outlook.

Fortunately for me, my goals are much more in tune with reality. I understand that winning the Super Bowl is difficult, even in the best of circumstances. Sometimes there is simply a better team in the way that year. There are an infinite number of things that can go wrong.

All I can realistically ask is that we build a team that is capable of getting there and winning and that we field such a team most of the time. To me it looks like, after 45 years of waiting, we finally have the folks in place to make that happen.

Honestly, with our past and as many times as I've had hopes dashed I find it very difficult to call anything we are doing right now a failure.

I'm hoping our next loss will be when we are something like 9-1 next season. Am I going to be upset if we lose Saturday night? Hell yeah, I'll be pissed and in a bad mood for a couple of days I'm sure, but as the loss fades I know I'll have a positive outlook about where we are headed and excited for the next season. I sure as hell am not going to be wallowing in an offseason of misery focusing only on our most recent loss, but I'm sure if we don't win the Super Bowl there will be those that do.

In the end, I know that as a fan I must accept every loss, regardless of how I feel about it, because simply there is nothing more that I can do about it, I can either waste time and energy dwelling on it or I can move on and look forward. The latter is much more fun.

I always set my personal expectations before each season and stick to them. Makes it easier for me not to get carried away with emotion. So far these last 3 years all the goals have been met. So yeah, I'm happy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, after enduring many seasons of losing and stupidity, it becomes pretty easy to recognize when it's time to enjoy the ride. This is one of those times.

This.

Your not guaranteed the future in anything . Yea our future looks bright that can change of blink of a eye . This is the same fan base that just 5 years ago everyone thought Vick was going to lead Falcons to a ring well we see how that worked out .

I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 .

Not even close to being correct.

Speak for yourself. I was as skeptical about Vick as I was about Jeff George. Sorry you weren't perceptive enough to see the clear warning signs.

18 pages. This is impressive.

At least we can all agree that we're all fans.

Well said...every fan on this board should accept nothing higher than a Superbowl berth. I believe the stage is set and we are primed to make a run to the big game, I really do. We all know what this team is capable of week in and week out and, as fans, we should expect nothing less. We have the personnel to get it done and, if used effectively, we can beat anyone on any given day. As fans, you gotta have that mindset...forget "the process" for a minute and think about the fact that we're in the playoffs and have a good shot at making it to the Superbowl...it's time we take it.

I'll get right on that.

In the meantime, why don't you explain to us how personnel decisions made by Taylor Smith remotely compare to the personnel decisions made by Thomas Dimitroff.

Yeah, I'd kinda like to hear those similarities myself.

That would be better fiction than anything Stephen King could dream up.

Way to completely miss the point of the post. Try reading it again, only this time don't stop after the first sentence.
