I just had to say it...I just think that like Peyton said, they have a high octane offense that was tearing up the league so they were contenders from the start. Then teams starting figuring out the offense, but the Saints were still trying to find ways to win, so it was like the team was adapting and becoming a better all around team, instead of trying to outscore the opposition every game.

Not only were they undefeated after 5 games, but their scoring differential was 99 points and their average margin of victory was 19.8 points. They stayed on pace to break the scoring record through week 8 I think, then fell off.

I mean, when you start out 5-0 and you are winning by 20 points a game, that is going to get you attention.

I don't have any problem with people putting the Falcons behind those teams right now.

Beating the SB not-losers on the road >>>> beating a team that got blown out in the first round at home

SF has people thinking its "an easy win now but I'm not buying that" either.

They should IMO be ranked:
Ravens
Steelers
Falcons
Jets

RE: WHY?
I think this just needs time. If we keep winning even we will get tired of hearing about the Falcons.

Never. That will not happen for me. I think an 80/20 ratio in each sports show/segment would suit me just fine! Cool

Last year when the Saints were barely winning games it was "the Saints are great because when the game is on the line they find a way to rise up and get the job done". So far this year the Falcons have been doing the same thing and instead it's "look at how lucky they've been. If Hartley makes the field goal, if Clements doesn't fumble the ball, if Seneca Wallace doesn't get hurt, blah, blah, blah!" Why the double standards?

I mean I could understand if the Falcons won only 4 or 5 games last year. But we won 9 games last year and BEAT the Jets on the road and both teams finished with 9-7 records. It's not the Falcons fault the NFC was the harder conference last year and that 9-7 wasn't good enough to get us in the playoffs like it did the Jets.

The Falcons have only had 2 games out of 5 where they played great on offense. The rest of the games we have really struggled on offense but still found a way to win.

i choose to remain consistent. when n.o. was getting lucky breaks last year, i didnt buy into the "great teams find ways to win" crap. they were getting lucky. just like we are this year.

Through this point of last year the Saints hadn't had a game closer than 2 TDs and were winning their games by an average of 20 points per game, so there was no need for anyone to say "great teams find ways to win" about them. They were killing teams.

So...while I agree that the Falcons have gotten lucky breaks this year, I don't think it is a great comparison.

The Falcons are 2nd in the NFL in scoring defense. The Falcons are 10th in the NFL in defensive ypg. The Falcons have recorded 11 sacks already which isn't great but good. The Falcons lead the NFL in interceptions with 10. And 9 of those interceptions are by 9 different players. The Falcons are +7 in turnover differental.

Oh wait I know the answer! It's because everyone thinks Matt Ryan sucks!

Compare Ryan's numbers to those of Sanchez, Flacco and Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger has no stats yet for this year so that eliminates him.

Matt Ryan - 109 of 177 (61.2%), 1165 yds (6.6), 7 TD, 3 INT - 86.9 QB Rating.
Mark Sanchez - 81 of 147 (55.1%), 902 yds (6.1), 8 TD, 0 INT - 91.7 QB Rating.
Joe Flacco - 97 of 170 (57.1%), 1116 yds (6.6), 5 TD, 6 INT - 72.1 QB Rating.

I just don't understand it. I honestly dont't. Sad

Us not getting attention has NOTHING to do with people thinking Matt Ryan sucks. The Atlanta Falcons are in a small market. The teams you mentioned above, are in large, money making markets. Quit looking at things emotionally, and look at it as a business. Media outlets such as ESPN/NFL Network and so on are going to talk about the teams that create revenue for them. Winning will help the Atlanta football market to grow, which will ultimately help us get national media attention. Don't take it as a slap in the face because it's purely business, and nothing more.

Atlanta is a small market? Atlanta is the 9th largest media market in America! Atlanta is one of the major airport hubs in the nation and it's not because it's a small market.
