WHY?

WHY?
I just don't understand why the Falcons get absolutely no love. Why is it only the Jets, Ravens and Steelers when people talk about the best team in the NFL?

The Falcons are 2nd in the NFL in scoring defense. The Falcons are 10th in the NFL in defensive ypg. The Falcons have recorded 11 sacks already which isn't great but good. The Falcons lead the NFL in interceptions with 10. And 9 of those interceptions are by 9 different players. The Falcons are +7 in turnover differental.

Oh wait I know the answer! It's because everyone thinks Matt Ryan sucks!

Compare Ryan's numbers to those of Sanchez, Flacco and Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger has no stats yet for this year so that eliminates him.

Matt Ryan - 109 of 177 (61.2%), 1165 yds (6.6), 7 TD, 3 INT - 86.9 QB Rating.
Mark Sanchez - 81 of 147 (55.1%), 902 yds (6.1), 8 TD, 0 INT - 91.7 QB Rating.
Joe Flacco - 97 of 170 (57.1%), 1116 yds (6.6), 5 TD, 6 INT - 72.1 QB Rating.

I just don't understand it. I honestly dont't. Sad

RE: WHY?
If the Falcons were undefeated you could expect more, but it's only 5 games so you'll see a hype later in the season if the team keeps winning.

Nothing flashy about this team except the defense, and the media wants to see the offense; things might pick up this week with Jinks back

RE: WHY?
I like to look at the demographics of the teams location. Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Jets all are northern teams. ESPN just happens to be run out of Bristol, CT. On top of that, The Steelers I think are the best team in the NFL. The Jets were the best team on paper going into the season, and the Ravens are usually a top 5 team. While it sucks that they put them ahead of us, it's easy to see why. I think once we take on Baltimore, hopefully with still only 1 loss on our record, and we beat them (again hopefully), it will give us some serious attention.

RE: WHY?
Well, most of the media outlets that are talking about the best team in the NFC have the Falcons as the top team or in the discussion, so I don't think the team is being slighted.

Pittsburgh is getting the props because they started 3-1 with scrubs at QB, including wins over Atlanta and a pretty damn good Tennessee team.

The Jets are getting props because they've won two games on Monday Night Football and because they've beaten both Tom Brady's Pats and Favre's Vikings. Yes, I know some people are thinking Minnesota is an easy win now but I'm not buying that.

The Ravens are getting props because they won on the road at both NY and Pitt. I mean, that is pretty damn impressive.

I don't have any problem with people putting the Falcons behind those teams right now.

RE: WHY?
Is it just me or has there been an epidemic of these "we don't get no respect" threads?

I don't remember a time when this team was remotely decent when we didn't have these threads.

Which is kind of funny to me. Before the season close to half the media experts were predicting the Falcons to win the division this year even though the Saints finished 4 games ahead of the Falcons, swept the Falcons, and won the Super Bowl last year, and the AFMB still had tons of the "we don't get respect" threads.

I think us Atlanta Falcons fans just have a bit of a complex lol.

But that's exactly why people should be giving the Falcons props. Last year when the Saints were barely winning games it was "the Saints are great because when the game is on the line they find a way to rise up and get the job done". So far this year the Falcons have been doing the same thing and instead it's "look at how lucky they've been. If Hartley makes the field goal, if Clements doesn't fumble the ball, if Seneca Wallace doesn't get hurt, blah, blah, blah!" Why the double standards?

I mean I could understand if the Falcons won only 4 or 5 games last year. But we won 9 games last year and BEAT the Jets on the road and both teams finished with 9-7 records. It's not the Falcons fault the NFC was the harder conference last year and that 9-7 wasn't good enough to get us in the playoffs like it did the Jets.

The Falcons have only had 2 games out of 5 where they played great on offense. The rest of the games we have really struggled on offense but still found a way to win.

Ok, I can hear ya, but to be fair, the Saints destroyed a whole bunch of teams last year before they got around to having some close games.

Fucking Hurricane Katrina..LOL I'm just kidding I swear I am. I just had to say it...I just think that like Peyton said, they have a high octane offense that was tearing up the league so they were contenders from the start. Then teams starting figuring out the offense, but the Saints were still trying to find ways to win, so it was like the team was adapting and becoming a better all around team, instead of trying to outscore the opposition every game.
