RE: Very polarizing draft pick
Jedi, I've agreed with you 100% about this draft class from the very beginning, and again i'll say, so many underclassmen came out last year because of the CBA crap, that this year was going to be kinda thin.
Another way to look at though could be, that all those players that went to the draft early last year, opened up spots for others to prove themselves. I'm still of the mind that this was still a subpar OVERALL draft class. with that in mind, and having seen the 'value' numbers for the draft spots we gave up vs what we got, we really didn't overpay that much, for one of the players in this draft who is actually worth a damn. Of course, we can't put the exact value on next years spots until we actually know what those spots are, IF WE EVEN HAVE A NEXT YEAR.... that said, i'm not totally in love with the trade, but i dont' totally hate it either, but, i am a FALCONS fan, Julio is our newest player, i'll support him and hope he turns out to fill the potential he shows Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Very polarizing draft pick
BEEF come back to reality and just admit TD gave up way to much for a unproven commodity .. Take those rosey glasses off ..
Take a deep breathe , come to grips with not every move TD makes is a great one. I know you want to grab the pom poms and yes im even happy to have Jones but we gave a arm and a leg up for a player that could have been there 10-12 and we could have made 100 other bold moves that could have panned out better then this one.. ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . No, not every move TD makes is a great one. The Peria Jerry pick was horse shit. But this pick is going to be a large part (not the only reason) for taking this team to the next level. This is MY team Swift. I have every right in the world to be excited as hell over this pick. |

Take those rosey glasses off .. after seeing some of the players taken in places no one even dreamed IE: locker, ponder....you could be right, he might have been there, but then again using those points, and how many teams took players that most didnt seem to fit their biggest needs, how do we know some of those teams wouldn't have taken him? look at the values assigned to draft positions swift, we really didn't overpay that much. would you be saying this if Cincy hadn't backed out of the attempted trade and we'd gotten AJ? most of the 'pundits' had them almost equal i hope the NFL opens up some player trading options today and we can get back into the second round somehow. Chew on THAT, Petunia!

Just a dumb /panic move by TD and was held for ransom . ![]() I'm delusional from our playoff loss against GB . Don't take me seriously until year 2413 . - Added by Phocis because of this post. I swallowed hard when it popped up on the screen that that's what we gave up, but I think it will be worth it. We potentially, and I stress potentially, have our Manning, Harrison and Wayne in place. |

RE: Very polarizing draft pick
This wasn't a move about the GB game but more a move about what GB and NO do. We lost that game because out offense couldn't keep up with their offense and it tired out our D. At times we have the same problem with NO. The reason is they can put on the field 4-5 receivers all of whom can play. We go into a 5 receiver set and they double White, Jenkins can't get open and Douglas drops the easy pass. Ryan is left to dump off or throw away. Adding a new threat that they will have to account for is only going to help us. Now we can put out White, Jones, Jenkins, Gonzo and Douglas/Meier even Weems if we need to. There is fire power there.
I don't sweat him becoming a bust. We have a great WR coach, a great HC and an excellent mentor in White. Of all those other 1st rd WR busts in the past few years none of them came into a support group like that. Bust won't happen. You have my guarantee. This trade doesn't put pressure on TD, he just got an extension. This puts pressure Biermann and Sidbury. The front office has enough faith in them to think they don't need a high level pick at DE. I like that. I like the confidence this team has. I like the swagger. We were the best team in the NFC last year. We need to get better in the playoffs. The game moves much faster there and each of our last two trips showed us getting exposed by wide open passing attacks who shut down our run game. We need to win the shootouts. This is our best hope to do so. I don't agree we mortgaged our future. We are a young team and frankly we don't need to overpay for a first round pick next year. This will get us where we need to be. |

RE: Very polarizing draft pick
Someone said we mortgaged our future? HAHAHAHAHA! Really?
So I guess we just forget about all the pieces already in place and say we mortgaged our future? HAHAHA! Swift said that didn't he? Not sure a 13-3 team last year mortgaged their future by this move. Ignorance at its finest right there. Now the Saints and Ditka when they got Ricky that was mortgaging your future, but they were also coming off back to back 6-10 seasons. They needed picks. We don't need as many picks but for some reason you guys like to believe that.

RE: Very polarizing draft pick
I know we gave up a lot but honestly? I love this trade. I just wish it had been AJ Green but Jones is almost as good. We have a team that is in WIN NOW mode. When's the last time we can ever say that about the Falcons? Barring an epic meltdown of our defense last year we had a team that could have won a Super Bowl. One of the glaring problems on offense was lack of a vertical threat and a reliable second option to get people off Roddy. Now we (hopefully) have that guy. I love it. We have a GM and owner not scared to gamble and go for broke when they think it will win a title. Sounds like a great thing to me.
