I don't know about where you live, but I see more "American" people living off of the government (ie: food stamps, wellfare, etc.) and have yet to see any immigrants. I worked in a grocery store through college so I saw a LOT of that going on. It's the sorry American people who walk around with a brand new iPhones/Smartphones but at the same time, use food stamps to buy there groceries that I have a problem with. If immigrants send money back to their country, they are helping their families. What would you do in their situation? I didn't say don't blame big business and high up government for not helping the situation and partially even encouraging it to suit their own ends, but it is a problem none the less. However, there is a reason that blue collar work is no longer able to support a person, let alone a family at this point in life. An American citizen is NOT wanted by a lot of these businesses who employ illegals because they're more expensive and a cheaper alternative can be found. The illegals aren't going to try to get better pay when they aren't even supposed to be there to begin with. If immigration was reformed, then illegals wouldn't be a major issue. I also didn't say it was only illegals who were abusing the welfare system. The last "funny" story I heard was this woman who filed for SSI because her cheerleader daughter was "disabled" because she was failing in math(and other subjects) so it wasn't "fair" that she wouldn't get the same opportunities as other students... so the government should send her money. I'm sorry, taking money out of our economy while living on welfare isn't right. These people work long enough to get into the system and then drop off the grid and keep pulling in the checks to funnel it back to their home country. Taking money out of our system while not contributing is not okay in my book. It isn't a black and white issue; very gray. |
