RE: Tom Coughlin is a Horse's Petute
Possibly the punt team was expecting it to go out. When it didn't the team tried to adjust but, it was to late.
It shouldn't have come down to a miracle.

Dodge isn't the only guy who should lose his job today. That loss by the Giants yesterday, with all that was on the line, and the way they lost.......has to be the most devastating regular season loss I have ever seen any NFL team take. Can't think of any regular season game that compares. |

RE: Tom Coughlin is a Horse's Petute
I will preface this by stating that I did not see the punt, but the report I heard said that Dodge got a high snap and by the time he got the ball under control he was lucky to get the punt off, let alone try to angle it out. Again, this was just what I heard. Regardless, there were ten other guys who failed to tackle...and Jackson even muffed the punt. I see so many big returns on muffs because the kicking team gets undisciplined thinking about recovering the ball and gets out of their lanes. Seems like just another case of the same thing.

Yeah, that's just not true. Coughlin said that trying to cover for his punter a tiny bit but it's just not true. The snap was a tiny bit high but the punter handled it cleanly. He had plenty of time to get the kick off and he just hit a stone cold line drive to Jackson. The kick was so low that Jackson fumbled the ball, but still had time to pick the ball up off the ground, gather himself and create a lane with movement long before any Giants got there. The punter had a job to do, a simple job, and he just didn't do it. Here, have a look, you will see that is complete hogwash. |

Yep. That punter could have easily shot it out of bounds. Looks like he might have just freaked because he got a high snap.

RE: Tom Coughlin is a Horse's Petute
Even if the punter kicks it out of bounds they go to OT and with the way the game was going I think Philly still wins it. The collapse is on the offense and defense much more than the punter. A couple of first downs by the giants would have sealed it.

The defense let Celek score a 65 yard TD that never should have happened, then the ST was caught completely by surprise with an onsides kick with 7 freaking minutes left in the game. HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU GET SURPRISED BY AN ONSIDES KICK WHEN THE OTHER TEAM IS DOWN 14 AND THERE ARE 7 MINUTES LEFT IN THE GAME???? Just insane. You are right. There is tons of blame to go around in this one. Ultimately it all falls on Coughlin. Doesn't make the punters mistake any less of a mistake though. |

No doubt! I didn't see the Celek TD, but yeah the onside kick deal was awful. Oh well glad I'm not a giants fan lol.

RE: Tom Coughlin is a Horse's Petute
Compare three coaches in virtually tbe same situation: Cougblin is not prpared for an onside kick. Smith has his good hands team out there. Carrol kicks deep, into the endzone, rather than taking ad antvantage of the nonreturn personel with sone kind of high kick to the 5-10 yardline.
HolyDuckett: The immaculately conceived gay-love-child of HolyMoses and duckettplease. (I'm straight, I'm just the result of their gay love, got it?) |

RE: Tom Coughlin is a Horse's Petute
I don't think there was any chance the Giants could win that game after Eagles tied up the score. The momentum was simply too great and NY's collapse too thorough. The TD return just made the inevitable a bit more dramatic.
