Thomas Dimitroff's Three Year Progress Report
OK, so I chilled out for a spell like I said I would by immersing myself in one of my favorite pastimes: Looking shit up.
What you have below is the companion piece to Matt Ryan's three-year progress report that I posted here a month or so ago. I can only hope this one doesn't suffer the same fate. A couple of notes: I included two sets of data for Ozzie Newsome, as he is often credited with being the true architect of that 2001 Super Bowl-winning Ravens team. For those who follow this line of thinking, the figures in parentheses cover the three-year period that began when Newsome was first hired on as Director of Player Personnel in 1996 – the title he carried until he was given the official GM designation in 2002. So, just take your pick on the data set that is to your liking. Also, there are certain coaches on this list (Walsh, Shula, Noll, Shanny) who were also their teams' defacto general managers, as there was nobody you could point to in those organizations' front offices who held that title officially at the time they were hired on. Finally, I included Bill Polian twice because, a) the Colts gig was not his first and, b) the Bills were pretty damn successful under his watch, despite being just wide right of actually winning a championship. So, with that out of the way, here is how our GM stacks up with the best in the business... Also, he is the only GM on the list to have won two EOTY awards, not to mention being able to boast a ROTY winner, a COTY winner and an EOTY award all in his first three seasons. Pretty impressive, I'd say. Looking forward to getting those playoff wins. |
